Well I can't say anything for the other two, but i'll give 2, wait, 4 thumbs up for the Volcano. It depends if you want a whip style (not my fav personally) or a bag. But the volc is one nice machine, trust me you wont be dissapointed
I've had the Herbalaire 2.1 for 2 months now. I got it mainly because I wanted a quality vape without paying the price for a Volcano. I'm not disappointed at all. Although the setup for bag fill seems overwhelming at first, if you read the guide book before using it everything is clear.
The bag fill works amazingly well, and the vape heats up in around 2 minutes and stays at the right temperature the whole time. You can also do direct inhale through it and it works well, but i find that the mouthpiece becomes somewhat warm-hot if using it for more than a few minutes.
Overall i'm extremely happy with it and would recommend it.
3 different style vapes-the 3 best? Opinions vary.
Volcano-gets the most hype of any vape. You can't go wrong quality wise. It's bag fill only, so it's a no-brainer to get it right every time. The drawback-you don't get the thick (but inconsistent) vapor hits you can get from a whip vape. Your vapor is mixed (diluted) with air. Every hit's pretty much the same-great for efficiency but I find it boring. I enjoy the experience of drawing my own hits from a whip vape-more work but the thick, smooth vapor hits make up for it for me.
herbalAire-I own this one and like it a lot. It's just as efficient as the 'cano (if not more so) at less than half the price. Easier to clean, cheaper to make extra bags (I like to have different sizes on hand). My wife likes bag delivery so even though I prefer the whip, I end up using this a lot. Your warranty is 2 yrs. vs. 3 for the 'cano Classic (Digit is 2 yrs), but their customer svc. is superb. You can also get direct hits from it-not as satisfying as a good whip vape, but just as effective. It has a fast heatup time, so you can be taking direct hits in just a couple of minutes after turning it on.
Vapezilla (and Super) have gotten a lot of hype by winning Cannabis Cup awards, but IMO forced air digital whip vapes are generally a breakdown waiting to happen. The ones that show heating chamber temp on the display are forced to work like mad to maintain a steady vaping temp while you're drawing on the whip. That's the main reason they use forced air-not to assist the user, but to help the unit maintain a steady incoming air flow to stabilize the heater. The designer of the Extreme Vape (also digital) made things a lot easier on his vape by having the display show the heater temp only. He knew that was the only way to guarantee heater reliability. The other problem with the zilla vapes is that you get no parts warranty. This is a big deal IMO when you have a heater that's being jerked back and forth trying to keep a steady temp, two fans (noisy too-see post #7 http://boards.cannabis.com/vaporizer...questions.html), and an expensive digital controller that'll cost you at least $200 to replace (see the same post ;) ). I would much rather have one of the zilla's competitors-Vaporfection Stealth II or the Evolutions. They work the same and you get a 3 yr. warranty-labor AND parts.
I would decide whether you want to use bags, whip, or both, and go from there. HerbalAire and the Extreme are great buys for dual mode use (and as much as I love my herbalaire I have to admit the Extreme hits better in whip mode). The Volcano is great if you're willing to pay $500+, but it's bag use only. The Vapezilla works great (if it holds up) but personally I don't like forced air with whip use. I like complete control over my air flow. If you like the idea of a whip vape (more work, more to learn, more fun :D ), you might look at the Silver Surfer. It's a simple analog vape with excellent build quality that delivers the best hits (thick and smooth) I've gotten, and I've used a dozen different vapes. And price wise, you can get the Surfer AND a herbalAire for less than the price of a Volcano.
I haven't tried the others, but I am a big fan of my volcano. Since we've got it I only smoke when I'm at other peoples houses, and several of my friends have decided to get their own because they like it so much. The price is an obvious turn off, but we save so much money because we don't have to buy as often that I would say its worth it if you can afford the up front cost. A bag lasts us twice as long as it did when we were smoking.
I research things a lot before I buy, and it seems to me the 3 good ones are the volcano, the herbalaire, and the vaporbrothers.... in order of expense, but not necessarily quality.
I have heard a lot of people say the herbalaire gets more vapor out of the weed then the volcano. The company advertises that you can take the spent weed out from "the other major vaporizers" and get two more full bags out of it in the herbalaire. I've never done the test myself, but I have heard independent people claim it is true... I've never heard anyone claim it is not true. I don't mean to be kissing herbalaire's butt here, but its chamber has 18 jets to maximize the distribution of the hot air through the weed... the volcano only has 5 jets or something like that.
So... that's that, for what its' worth. A lot of people swear by the volcano, and I don't think you can go wrong buying any of the above.
I personally lightbulb vape right now because I'm a poor law school student. But eventually I'm going to lay down the green and get an herbalaire. I like that it can do direct hit or bag fill. It is half the price of the volcano, and it actually seems, to me, to be a better quality and better thought out vaporizer.
Well, I'm a big herbalAire fan. Works great. It's extremely efficient. I can assure anyone that it fully cooks its load every time if your temp setting is good. Their customer svc. is the best. I don't know that it's any better quality than the 'cano, but cleaning is easier, and it's cheaper to have multiple bags on hand. Uses the same bags as the 'cano too.
And there are certainly more good ones available than the 'cano, herbalAire and Vapor Bros. The Vaporwarez Vaporcannon beats out the Vapor Bros IMO. It's available a little cheaper (especially on ebay), is more flexible for using whips from other vape makers, and has a better warranty (5 yrs.). If you can afford the extra $, the Silver Surfer is the best analog whip vape you can buy IMO (excellent build quality, ergonomics, and really potent hits). I would also prefer their new offering (Da Buddha -$159) over any of the wood box units.
I had 2 vapor brothers before getting the herbalaire. I sold the first one and still have a hands free vapor brothers. Comparing direct hits from the herbalaire with hits from the vapor brothers I like the vapor brothers better. I can take bigger hits from the vapor brothers and i like taking 20 second hits.(that might be because the herbalaire gives me more concentrated hits, i don't know).
Without a doubt the herbalaire is more efficient though. I save the spent stuff from the vapor brothers and make some pretty superb brownies, so i know i'm not getting everything with the vapor brothers.
With the herbalaire though, the stuff comes out looking like death. no joke.
Pretty much any direct draw vape will outperform the herbalAire. It's effective but not satisfying. I think it's those 18 tiny inlet holes that are so efficient with bag use. They restrict the incoming air too much to give rich vapor hits. It does come in handy for a quick hit or two, with the fast heatup time. I love mine.Quote:
