try to keep your light schedual somewhat the same.........meaning your hps turns on when the sun is coming up. it will reduce the shock and help the change over.

Alright thank you, and also when it comes to growing outside. Would it be logical to let them have shaded sunlight before i give them direct sunlight in their little herb patch? :)

no thats not necessary full sunlight is best start them indoors for a couple of weeks under 24/0 light cycle keep a small fan on them to build stem strength and then move them outside around may 24

your talking about 'hardening off' your plant. This is also a good idea to gradually change the light intensity of the sun so theres less stress on the plant.
you could even take your plant out side for about 20 mins one day, bring it in for artificial light, the next day do it again but leave it a little longer outside.
but then you have the problem of bringing unwanted critters into your grow space. I would personally do what your mentioned, putting under filtered sun for a little before full sun.

i would start as soon as possible. a bigger plant will adapt easier to the outdoors.
