Depends on the size of plants. More lumen's the better if you can do something with the heat build-up. I have seen a 2 lb plant grown under a 1000w hps before. I would say 250w HID for 1-2 plants would be nice but the more the better.
i dont know the more the better i went 15.000 lumens per feet square and i burned one plant
are you talking about uv-b bulbs?
if so use reptile bulb.
full spectrum is a more natural way to go with lighting, it give a more balanced view to the plants. its a good idea to have about 50 watts of light per square foot(hid lighting not floro or cfl)
uv bulbs can be dangerous to you, theres abunch of info around here on the uv.
in a full specturm you should have a mixed kelvin(kelvin is basically the color of the light, mainly here about the reddish or bluish kelvin spectrum for cannabis) the quality of kelvin should be about the same in every manufacturer. might get different lumens ratings per manufacturer
i would recommend using atleast a 150watt hid lighting for a small number of plants. but would still recommend a 600(best lamp in my eyes, and best watt per lumen ratio)
In full spectrum bulbs you need not worry about degrees Kelvin,Quote:

i have looked around the web alot and this is the best fullspectrum bulb I have found it has a 96cri !!
Maxum 5000 47" F54-T5HO Mini Bi-Pin
and prolly will be for some time until we get the LUXIM'S
Hey Veggii;
I have been disappointed with T5 bulb selection for some time. But I wanted a bulb to fill in whatever was missing from red LEDs and decided on full spectrum. (since the "whites" in hi-power LEDs dissappointed in experiments)
I used Hagen life-glo bulbs w/ cri of 98. I have 8-2' bulbs in my hy-bred LED/fluoro bloom bulb. I was prepared to use IceCap ballasts and drive those little 2' tubes to 40watts each, but did not have too. I have 8-24" metal PCB strips with 10-Cree XR red LEDs. Using a sign power supply of 180W/38V, very similar to supply you're using....only cost me much more.
Blomm bulb is 192W Fluoro/160W LED, replaced a 600W HPS with slightly better results.
I mentioned in another post, I'd really love for someone to produce a reptile T5 tube in 2'
I would like to do a comparo of adding the reptile bulb.....maybe one then next grow two etc.
I am building a grow room/box because my GF got so paranoid about the pair of 6 foot trees in the back yard. I also have 3 smaller ones about 2 1/2 - 3 ft tall. What I am building is 6ft by 6ft by 8ft tall. its sides are gonna be lined with aluminized foam board, the top open. I have 12 flor fixtures for the sides....2 tube, 4ft, and got the 5000K, full spectrum "Sunstick" tubes to go in them... thats 24 tubes for a total of 52,800 lumins, and over the top will be 6 CFLs with 10,200 lumins for a total of 63,000 lumins.Quote:
