I know a lot of you out there use those 18oz Party Cups for your starter.
How long do you recommend keeping them in a cup that size before transplanting?
Is there a way to tell if the plant is rootbound?

Use those for the first transplant, and start in something smaller, like the size of a Dixie cup. Read the FAQ post about why to transplant.
You can tell if it is rootbound when you tip the rootball out of the container and roots are coiling around the bottom of the cup. Or when the leaves start to curl under.
I've used them for years (assuming they're not clear cups). I use the Solo cups I get at target.
I forgot you asked how long can u keep them in the 18oz cup. That depends on how many transplants you will be making. Mine come out of the cup at 3 weeks, then into 3/4 gal pots for two weeks then into 2gal pots to flower. Sometimes the determining factor in how often one transplants their ladies is the size of the garden. I'm lazy at heart and only transplant twice. If your garden is small I'd transplant 3 times.
