lay plant on side for a while to aid LST?

this isn't a very urgent question but more out of curiousity, in an old high school biology textbook i seen a picture of a plant laying on its side in the pot and the plant was almost growing completely vertical after about 24 hours (according to the textbook) would this be a good thing to do if you planned to LST your plant and when it starts going vertical turn the plant back the way it is supposed to be and then tie it down when it is already growing like that? would this be less stressfull?

I'm not sure I see the point. Once your plant grows some after you tie it down the first time and it starts going vertical then you just tie it down again.

Laying the pot down on it's side could be damaging if the side shoots are wider than the pot not to mention it would be messy as dirt would come out or if you watered it then the water would not pool properly.

Also I'm not sure how this would effect your roots. I believe roots like to grow down and then to the sides and up the pot. Putting it on it's side would give it less room to grow down before it started growing back up.

I've never grown this way. Though I have put a couple of males on their side in a very space limited area when I was trying to be sure in my determination that they were male (I quarantined them from the known females). There were no adverse effects (aside from the mess) until I chopped them up and fed them to my cat. Keep in mind though that these were already well established plants.
