Floating 5 gallon buckets of herb.
Thoughts on this idea please....
Floating out five gallon buckets on a pond with full sunlight. They would be floated in lifeguard life saving rings. I suppose if the medium is light and the plants not enormous, it might work. Also, the float wold be tethered to the pond's side along a cove with brush all along the bank. This would keep it fro floating away or tipping over. water in the medium could be maintained with a thin rope buried in the medium and hung over the buckets edge into the water. Seems feasible.

If it's out in the open, then waves will be too big. If you find a good calm spot, it might work. I've never grown though. Would you visit it by a small boat?

this is damn cool if it works :)

I hate to be the devil's advocate, but they would be pretty visable out on the open water and when they get tall a strong breese could capsize the pot.
However, if you attempt it let us know it goes.

I've done a grow in a Ga. swamp with a block of styrofoam, painted camo.2 blocks, each was 8 inches thick with a hole cut for each 5 gallon bucket. Layed a peice of screen to keep the soil in the buckets. They were placed where the pond spilled into the swamp. The pond was built by beavers. It was fairly successful! It can be done. The larger your base the better chance you'll have to finishing them.
