Democrats square off over revote in Florida

WASHINGTON - The Clinton and Obama campaigns Wednesday dug in on opposing sides about a do-over presidential primary in Florida.

Sen. Hillary Clinton, who won Florida's first primary Jan. 29, told the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce that the only two options she backs are counting the January primary or a new vote.

She would net about 38 more pledged delegates than Obama if the Jan. 29 results were counted, and her camp is optimistic about winning a revote because she won by a wide margin and has done better among Hispanics and older voters.

But the campaign of Sen. Barack Obama said it had "deep concerns" about a revote and opposed using the Jan. 29 results because the timing of the election violated party rules. The Obama campaign has floated ideas such as splitting Florida's delegates evenly, which would protect his lead in the national scramble for delegates.

Obama's camp also pointed to Florida's nine House Democrats in Washington, who came out against the idea after a lengthy meeting Tuesday night.

Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., said Wednesday that despite opposition from his House colleagues, he will press ahead with the mail-in election because it's the only option for breaking the impasse. And in Tallahassee, state House Democratic Leader Steve Geller said a poll he had commissioned found that 59 percent of Democratic voters who cast ballots in January would favor a mail-in revote.

I dunno. It doesn't seem fair. They already agreed. You can't go back and change the rules when things don't go your way.

Hillary is grasping for straws.

She didn't grasp at the straws.......she grabbed a handfull and bitch slapped Obama with them. I blame this on the DNC.....they created this stupid ruling. The GOP at least allowed the peoples voices to be heard, no reason for the confusion down the road that the Dems created for themselves. Howard Dean....what a guy.:thumbsup:

Very true. The DNC decided to count none at all. I know the idea of only counting half went around for a while.

At least the Republicans did it right the first time.
