If its roasted it won't germ, that's for sure....where did you buy the seeds???
Yep I was wondering if they had been exposed to heat myself, got them from the hardward store.Quote:

they shouldnt have been treated in anyway. bird mixes are usually black oil (small and black) or grey stripe (large) they usually germinate with no problems. i am not sure what a black oil plant looks like but the others are large flowers used for production.
They should germinate just fine. Around my birdfeeder I get a constant procession of seedlings. Black oil sunflowers are about 5 feet tall with a flower seedhead that is maybe 3-4 inches across (wider flower with the petals). The gray striped ones are the big guys that go up around 8 feet or more with a seed head that is a foot across. Last year I bought a few packs of sunflower seeds so I could plant specific varieties. There were some GIANTS that must have been over 12 feet tall with multiple big flower heads. They towered over a ten-foot fence. I planted some in several garden beds, so walking into the garden was like going into some kind of sunflower jungle. I'm doing it again this year.
Once the plants were dead and dry, I cut off the seed heads and I moved them from the backyard where I grew them, and put them in the front yard where I keep the feeder. Birds never came for the seeds, but squirrels from all over the neighborhood came for them. Every day for a couple of weeks I'd see them running down the street carrying a sunflower head in their mouth. Probably took them to some other person's house. I can see them wondering where all the dead sunflower heads in their yard were coming from.
I know this mite sound stupid but wot would happen if you fed a bird cannabis seeds??
your seeds would be wasted, the birds wouldnt know the difference, it wouldnt make them stoned.... but I wonder if you put sunflower seeds near your plants and kept it stocked if that would deter some pests??
Thanks for the replys, I got a bag of them so I will plant some.
