My friend bought me one of those lighters that has a green flame. After taking a bong hit with it i noticed it tasted really wierd/painful.
Are there any risks associated with using this type of lighter?

I've never even heard of such a lighter. What combustible chemical/gas does it contain?
It probably contains Butane, I have a few that also produce the green flame, it actually comes from a small ball of metal near the top of the flame output thing that heats up and releases something that turns the flame green. I don't use it for anything, I used to use it when I smoked cigarettes, and it didn't seem any different from any other lighter.
The green flame is because the "small ball of metal" is copper.Quote:

Listen to Mississippi Steve, he is right. Copper is the only thing I know of that burns green.
Copper fumes are poisonous
(and rightfully under appreciated).
Some Materials give off different colors when heat is applied.
Try this:
Take the end of a knife, wet it and dip it in salt. Then, take your good old Bic, and start the flame. Observe the color, then hold it under the salt. See the color change?
Salt normally gives off a dark red, to an orange color.
Copper, on the other hand, gives off green light energy. It also gives off some toxic fumes. Thats what you're tasting.
Bic ftw.
Just so long as it isn't white. :DQuote:

The harshness from smoking with this lighter is caused by the low temperature burning metal that changes the color of the flame to green that you inhaled with the smoking material, in other words do not inhale burning metals! Use a bee line for a cleaner smoke.
