What type of Socket matches Ballast
Hi,
Thinking about getting the following 150 HPS Ballast:
150 Watt High Pressure Sodium
My only question is, is the socket at Mogul Base HID Socket Light Bulb the right one to buy? Below is the info from the site:
Mogul Base HID Socket
Catalog Code: SOCK-243200
$5.64 Each
# Additional Information Porcelain body gray glazed with ceramic arc shield. Copper alloy nickel-plated screw shell with lamp grips. Copper alloy nickel-plated center contact. Lugged leads are No. 14 AWG 200°C 600V glass braid SEW-2

# Stripped 1/2 in.

I thought I needed a 4KV Pulse rated socket so I have not bought it yet.
Thanks

Actually, yer matching socket to bulb, not ballast.
You really do want a 5k pulse socket, and just about every HID bulb I've ever seen is a " mogul base"- the packaging on the bulb will state.
There's a really signifigant surge associated with arc ignition of an HID bulb ( sorta like the startup pull of an electric motor, but I think that that's considered an inductive as opposed to conductive surge, and I've seen differant ratings for the two types of surge- is there an electrician in the house?), so you really do need the heavy conductors even on a low wattage system, and make sure that everything on the high voltage side of the transformer is nice and tidy. Good practice anyway.
If yer worried about getting the right thing, you can walk i and buy the socket cash @ Home Depot.

Thanks, that's good to know. I had looked in Lowes and HD at sockets, and did not see any pulse rated mogul sockets. I don't recall seeing any mogul sockets at all now that I think about it. Are they located in the Lighting department or in Electrical?
Thanks
