Personally i think they're both absolute shit.
Go to download.com type in Avast
Spybot is good too. Both free.

Also take a look at AVG Free and AVG Anti-Spyware Free.

I agree with the other replies here, the good anti-virus/spyware software is available for free...I suggest investing in a few geeky contacts, they'll know the score.
Stay off the dodgey sites though!
Get NOD32 is good too, also this free one Antivir

There are free alternatives as others have suggested, although I've learned to not have much confidence in them.
