New Autechre Album out in March!
I was looking at the warp records website and saw that Autechre is putting out a new album in March.. the tracklist has like 20 songs... thats a ton for them. Quarterstice or something like that is the name of it. I can't wait. I have almost all of thier work they've put out, and hope to one day get it all. Anyone else love this group as much as I do?

Chiastic Slide is a great album, as is Tri Repetae. I just bought Draft 7.30 and Untitled as well. They pretty much all sound the same from beginning to end though, not sure if I regret buying the latest two or not.

Their later works get far more abstract and experimental then the Tri Repetae era, I suggest giving them a few more listens where you really sit and absorb it and see if they grow on you a little more. Autechre is not a group that can be easily absorbed upon the first couple listens (in many cases not even the first 5 listens). There is intricate subtle shifts and changes in the later works that is not always noticable upon first listen, they have also developed an affinity for almost unheard of time signatures. Draft 7.30 took a long time for me to open up to but is now one of my favorite albums by them. Untitled is a bit less abstract but instead makes use of very odd and irregular time signatures that often shift constantly. However thier later works admittedly are definately not for everyone. Perhaps you might enjoy their more minimalistic early works prior to Tri Repetae a lot more? Thier first record Incunabula is a strong debut, and Amber is also a very decent record.
Chiastic Slide is one I haven't gotten yet because I can never find it in any of the shops around me, but I think I may order it soon. From what I've been told it's the middle point in the shift from the early more minimal works to the more complex and abstract and is a great blend of both worlds. I look forward to hearing that one as well.

I'm surprised you don't have Chiastic Slide, it is considered one of their best works.
I'm sure I will like the last two albums, I don't dislike them, but you know when you pay for music you expect more from it.
Have you heard "Augur" by Interloper? One thing which I find lacking in Autchres work is voice sampling, I find a techno record can sound quite empty without some. This album by Interloper is one of my favourites of the experimental/industrial/ambient/electro genre, yeah that's like 4 genres I know but it's a difficult album to categorise. It is very dark and atmospheric, and contains lots of nice voice samples.

I'll have to look into that one, that's a new name for me

Look out there is also a rock band called Interloper, can't find any news on what the original Interloper are doing now. You wont regret buying this album though. The second one, Six Dragons, is quite different, more like acid jazz, I didn't like it so much.

Tried looking for it online so I could hear some samples of it, but no luck. Perhaps I'll have better luck next time I go to my favorite local cd shop. They got almost everything there, the place is huge

Shame. They are a fairly small act who originated from Camden in London, I believe, so might be hard to come by in America. I only discovered them by chance. Amongst the piles of other shite, that were in my local library CD borrowing collection, I found this curiosity and decided to give it a listen.
Listened to the last two autechre albums a bit more and they are growing on me. Hearing them in that half asleep state always helps. I like the last track on Untitled, nice to hear some voices samples, albiet a minimal amount, it is minimal techno after all.

Yeah, you wont hear much vocal samples in Autechre's work because to use them goes against the aim of thier work. Autechre try to remove the human element from the music completely, as if to make it seem the results of the music constructing and shaping itself or working like functions of a rhythmic machine (The "Gantz Graf" single being one of the extreme examples of that aesthetic goal). There is only a couple other Autechre tracks I know of with vocal samples in there entire works those being "Basscadet" off thier first album Incunabula and "Ccec" on Ep7, wich is thier take on glitch hop... I suppose you could argue that that's a vocal sample on "Stud" on Tri Repetae also but I think it's more likely a vocal sounding synth voice.

It's apparently available for download now.
Have you ever listened to one of their albums backwards? I'd like to try listening to Untitled backwards, if it is possible, maybe it sounds really good as well.
One thing is for sure, smoking a bowl and falling asleep to their music seems to add extra dimension to it, when you are in that half awake state of mind when you come back into the conscious realm, it's almost like for a few moments you can discern the the pattern in the music.
