i have a slight problem (its not long plz read)

so basically i "gave" my ex mother in law my 5 year old laptop. she then gives it to her daughter, my ex sister in law.

(i gave it to my ex boyfriend's mom when we were still together)

i didnt really mind because she probably thought her daughter could use it more than her.

we broke up yesterday and now im moving back to my family. would it be really wrong of me to take my laptop back? when i say moving, i mean 2,500 miles away. so i wont really see these people ever again but i've known them for like 2 years.


now my ex bf, ex mother in law, and other coworkers use it at work since it hooks up to the internet. i use it at work too, but im not going to work here anymore since im moving.

its fine for me to take it back right? my parents bought it for me and they paid like 2k for it 5 years ago. will they understand or hate me for taking away the internet at work? (no one else has a laptop) but does it even really matter what they think since im no longer with my ex?

even though its 5 years old, its not even that bad. it still does the internet at a decent pace.

i also i feel like im "taking away" my ex sister in law's only computer. well im not even sure if it can pick up wireless at her house. but it was never given to her in the first place, just her mom.


everyone is gonna hate me right :(

If you gave it to them it's a done deal. Anything less is sleezy.

Do what you want, they arent going to forever you for the crappy old lap top.

The chain of ex's just confused me, are you splitting up with your husband or boyfriend? Not that it matters, but if your going back home and you leave that laptop you might find your parents arent happy you left the laptop for those folks. I let someone borrow a laptop my mom gave to me, now that laptop and its whereabouts come up so often I wish I could get the dinosaur back!!!!!!!!!!!

Well... if you have one nice desktop and you wont need the laptop, while the laptop is your sisters-in-law only computer, i think you should let it with her.
I think two persons with one computer each is much more rightful than one person with two computers and other with no one. And the fact you wont see they ever again doesnt change this.

EDIT: And if your parents get pissed cause you did the more rightful thing to do, just tell them you were only being rightful. No parents should complain about their sons/daughters behaving righteously.

How did you word it when you 'gave' it to them? Gift or loan? That makes all the difference. You keep saying 'gave'. So it's the mom's right to re-gift it to whomever she chooses.
You can get a pretty SICK laptop at wholesale clubs for like $600 these days... it's an OLD COMPUTER. You'd probably end up getting rid of it in a year or so anyway. Tell your parents the truth and they will just have to understand that they raised a kid who has some manners not to try to retract a gift... that's worht something in and of itself.

i gave it to them while i was still with my boyfriend. mailed it to them actually because i wasnt here with them at the time.

i say "mother in law" because me and my boyfriend have been dating forever and i just consider them family because i live with my boyfriend and his mom (well he's my ex now, ill be going home soon)

they are so poor and both my ex-mother in law, and her daughter (ex sister in law) dont have a computer

yea i think it would be heartless of me to take it away from them.


i just know my parents will be pissed off beyond belief about it though. they are the ones who bought it, but they gave it to me for a birthday present. they wanted me to give it to my 16 year old sister. she has a computer but i guess its the "family computer" but still shes the one who is always on it so i guess she has her own computer.


i love my mother in law anyway. well ex mother in law.
