Barack Obama - The way I see it is this

Hilary Clinton was always the prime choice to lead the Democrats into the post GWB era, and as a woman obviously her leadership will therefore carry along with it a great deal of historical importance, lending itself to some small but perhaps vital share of the electorates bias on that value alone.

Then this guy Obama comes along and makes things more interesting. What do you go for sexual or racial equality? It could be a coincidence, but that's what it is.

I've not seen much of the guy, or heard much of what he is saying, but he seems like a nice guy, a lot more intelligent than that monkey faced bollock twat George Bush, and also he has a very youthful and handsome appearance. He's not an odd looking character, like all the leaders of the third world countries that have democracy have. I mean they are more representative of your business meeting tie and suit types than the indigenous people in those countries.

So on the face of it Obama is a vibrant new thing, whereas Hilary is kind of you know getting on a bit now, he is charming and possibly open to listen to the people rather than being such a control freak like Bush. Basically he's a black american Tony Blair, or at least that is what my mind, influenced as it is at the moment by purple clouds, is telling me.

Is he a dirty no good conversative nazi fuck, disguised as a liberal vote deflector? I hope he is not though and turns out to be a change for the better. Or whoever gets in.

Either way, I think the Republicans are fucked.

Yes, Hillary Clinton is the plan for the 2008 election, but this is not a battle of race and sex, but a battle between propaganda and public knowing. If anyone wishes to justify presidential eligibility toward ethnicity and sex, tell me "why?"

Barack Obama's history is [so far] very much stable than that of some other candidates. But that is not to say you shouldn't question who and how they are. Unfortunately, people aren't listening to the words of candidates, just as long as everyone is making themselves look good, they think everything else doesn't matter.

I'm a skeptic for John Kerry....

obama is the best candidate out there that has a shot at winning. im not saying he has the best chance to win just that off people with a chance to win he is the best one there is. by far. if he doesnt get the nomination im probably not voting unless it is hilary v mccain. in which case im voting mccain.

I am personally leaning toward Obama, although I haven't fully decided yet. I don't agree with all of his policies, but I agree with most. Responding to what you were saying, I think he would go a long way toward repairing America's damaged image around the world. He is the kind of person that I think people would respond to around the world in a way that they have never done for any other president.

He is one of those people who transcends race. He's like Colin Powel or Tiger Woods in that he is a black man who you do not think of in terms of his race --- he himself does not speak in terms of race. He's gotten away from the American race politics of people like Jesse Jackson. He stands on his own merits, which is what America really is about. He is inclusive, where most race-charged politics of the past was not. It is a much younger and inclusive way to relating to race than the older generation had. That approach is the future of this country.

I still need to learn more about him, but the qualites that you mentioned are definiitely there. He is youthful, opitmistic, energetic and hopeful in a way that other candidates cannot match. That might not be enough, but it is refreshing. Also, I do not believe it is fake --- I think he is authentic, and that is another part of his appeal.

I am not trying to justify it, but it is an inescapable fact that if the democratic candidate is a woman, or has African blood, the electorate will be swayed by it.

I'm not saying either are playing up on race or sex, just that it will undoubtedly become a factor in the race.

And yes, George W Bush is most definately a monkey faced bollock twat.:D

Obama has zero chance if he's nominated. Democratic party might as well surrender.

The south compromises 30% of the electoral vote. Within that, there are many white men who'd never vote for a black man, or a woman.

It's entirely possible to win without the south, but 30% is a huge chunk to gamble on. Next thing I know, I'll be called a racist for thinking this, but I'm being realistic. The south will never vote a black man in.

I'm still undecided on who I am going to vote for. I like Obama, but I don't think he has much of a chance.

I disagree with this.

Among Democrats in the South, the black vote is an important factor. If blacks vote for him in the Southern primaries, he has a very good chance of doing well in the primaries in the south and getting the nomination. Within the Democratic party, the black vote will outweigh the racist white bubba vote. We'll see what happens in South Carolina pretty soon, and I think he will probably win there.

In the General Election, the South is not a huge factor for the Democratic candidate, because the South seldoms swings Democratic anyway. Almost no Democratic candidate has any hope of winning the South regardless of race, so I don't think it matters much what the nominee's race is when it comes to the Southern vote. It's problematic for Democrats in general that they never win the South anymore, but I don't think race will change that one way or another.
