A few niggling questions I need help with.
Hello guys and girls,
I have considered many factors for my grow (electricity bills/'stealth'/needing to minimize odors/the fact I am not a heavy smoker) and finally decided that a one square foot micro scrog was the only grow that fittied my criteria. I have built the 'cab' myself and have forced myself to recycle materials and thus so far have not spent a penny, recycling brings me to my first question:
I have some home made compost (very light and rich) that unfortunatly has been prone to grow grass, if I was to moisten the compost and boil off the water, would this totally steralize and solve the problem?
I have seen plants grown straight from seed to the 12/12 flowering stage, naturally with a small space I will have to cut out most of vegging, though wondered what the maximum amount of time was I could get away with letting the plant veg as not to lose space, anyone know?
Last (silly) one, I have six seeds and I want to be conservative! I am considering sprouting just the one seed and growing it straight to the scrog in the hope that it is a female plant, anyone know what the chances are that it is a female?
Well thats it for now, later stoners.

well with one seed its 50/50 sexing chance. but force you plants to sex when there about 2 weeks into veg stage for 12/12 untill it starts to preflower (showing the sex) then you can switch back to 18/6 or 24/0 with your lights. now as far as the compost and sog go... i can't help you there really because i haven't tryed the SOG method yet.. but i will soon enough so ill leave this one to the pros  :smokin:

if you boil off the water would the compost lose its nutrients and the good stuff?

You can keep your lights on 12/12 straight through from seed. It will flower as soon as it reaches maturity.
Also, it has been my experience that the following regimen promotes a higher percentage of females. I regularly get 70-80% females using these methods. I should point out that I use soil and soil-less mix. Don't know how it would fare in a hydro setup.
1. 12/12 light cycles in early seedling stage. I will switch t0 18/6 when the plant begins to show it second set of real leaves. You can leave it on 12/12 if your space is restricted.
2. Cooler than normal air temperatures: about 62-68 degrees
3. Use cold water. I draw from my cold water tap and use it immediately. I know personally an old timer that refrigerates his water before use.
It is my opinion that these three conditions more closely mimic the weather and light conditions of early spring, so as to not be detrimental to the seedlings in any way. Why the result is a higher ratio of females, I don't know.
As for your question about the medium. I would not use it and invest in a bag of Promix or a good potting soil. I would also buy some proper nutrients. If you spend any money at all, spend it on these items. Your buds will be so much better. Good luck!

Pure luck, probably. If I'm not mistaken, male/female is already programmed into the seeds genetic makeup.

Maybe so, but it's happened so many times in a row now that it's hard to believe there's not something to it. Plus I got independent confirmation about the cold water from someone who's been successfully growing since the 70s. Try it with 10 bag seeds and see if you don't get 7 females.

I don't believe that to be the case. The fact that you can spray something on a plant to make it change sex points to other factors that may affect m/f selection. I think it entirely possible that those factors include environmental.
