Finished Bud

Hey guys, I grew for my first time over the summer, but the nugs didn't turn out to great. Right after i picked them off the plant, the bud looked as it should, but after a few days of hanging the plants to let it dry, the bud became very dry and brittle. I tried to cure it after this but it stayed brittle. So then I tried spraying alittle water over the nugs to give them a little moisture, but now when I open the jar, it smells like shit (the nasty smell when things stay moist). Does anyone know what I did wrong because I plan to have another grow soon and would not want to make the same mistake.

After spraying with water, how often and for how long did you open the jar for fresh air? Should be at least a few minutes, daily. Did you see any mold or fungus?
