Mods, Moderation, and Moderate Opinion?

This now seems to be a repetitive issue, but I'll start with one example. Why was this thread in the politics section locked? People seemed to still be posting relevant information on it. I first thought it was because someone said "f" in regards to the "f"ed up politics we live in today, but after a quick search, I realized a lot of threads have "f" in them, yet they're still open. Usually warnings are given in threads if a poster goes out of line, and proper corrections to the thread are generally made. The only thread in my search that was locked is the one that has to do with Ron Paul. Is this because of P4B's feelings about Paul's campaign? He seems to be incredibly picky with those threads, reading them carefully, and then closing/locking them for any reason possible while his own posts, in many cases, attempt to coax a negative reaction out of members. He also has a problem with putting spin on political issues.
This thread didn't spawn from immaturity, and it's not a personal attack towards P4B. I'm just trying to help the community and owner of the site see what's happening to the politics section, and essentially the site as a whole. I'm trying to weed out the apples that appear to be going bad. For a moderator to work efficiently, they need to be moderating something they're able to keep a moderate position on. That's always been how professionalism was practiced, and this site seems to want to move towards a more mature and professional version of itself (which I agree with). Without moderation of opinion, threads aren't treated equally. I'm also not trying to get anyone dropped or in trouble, but maybe a simple reassignment is in order.
I'm not simply complaining that a section has been deleted or about one specific post. This goes beyond complaining about my restaurant, cannabis.com, dropping one of my favorite dishes from the menu. Now I'm complaining that "the police" in "my community" are treating the side of the community they associate with with more leniency than my side of the community.
Judging from responses from mods to members in the past, I predict this thread will be replied to harshly and immediately locked/deleted (though I realize this is done for good reason some of the time, such as with actual immaturity overcoming a thread/outlandish remarks), and it's a shame because this used to be a place for discussion (not only is this a forum, but it's a feedback/suggestion section). I also predict some sort of spin will be put on this issue, making this post out to be immature and petty. I needed this paragraph to close my argument, because if the thread is locked and I get spun, nothing but this can get me back in a neutral position in the eyes of those reading. So please, if the thread is locked/deleted don't add fuel to the fire by flaming me as well.

I pay quite a bit of attention to threads that have been closed and feel I have to say that I personally have never seen a thread closed that would be indicitave of the mods own personal views.
Threads tend to closed because rules have been broken or that thread looks like it is heading towards causing problems either for admin or other users of the site.
This is my personal view based on being a member since May 2005.I may of course be wrong and I have no doubt someone will disagree but I am absolutely sure threads are not closed just because a Mod doesn't agree with the topic.
If they were then I would not be a member of these boards.

Being involved in that thread for a post or two, it seemed to me that it was closed because the last 4 posts or so had gone off topic. Not speaking for P4B at all and I could very well be wrong, but that's my opinion on it.
BTW, I had no problem with it being closed, based on that being my understanding. <shrug>
I have not seen any problem regarding staff members closing threads because they personally disagree with any views being expressed, though judging from your post it seems you have already decided they do. ;)

Jouryokujin, if my math is correct I counted 17 deleted posts from that thread. They range from flaming other members (mind you since politics can be a subject with fierce feelings, a little more lattitude is allowed in the political forum so for them to be deleted for flaming, they are usually quit bad) to just being useless posts (believe me they were useless posts as they had nothing to comment on the thread topic, not that their political views were liked or disliked agreed with or disagreed with, just straight up useless). 4 came right before Psycho4Bud closed the thread. I don't know if you saw these last 4 deleted posts before they were deleted or all 17 deleted posts but I would like to know if you did and if your comments on this thread closure were based on seeing those posts or not seeing those posts because it makes a very big difference. Many times people don't see the posts before they get deleted and then they see a thread is closed and on the surface everything looks good but beneath the shine lies a darker hiden evil!
As a general rule, as thread begin to go downhill, we'll put the brakes on them instead of waiting till the have picked up terminal velocity and are rushing down the hill only to crush the villagers who live at the bottom. :jointsmile:

Like what was stated by FBR.....there were many posts deleted and in the end the subject matter had NOTHING to do with Ron Paul so I did close it and even stated that was the reason. IF you would care to start a new thread on the same order.....have at it!
angry nomad had a thread in there about a Ron Paul matter that was closed and due to new information regarding the subject matter I merged the threads and opened the original one!
