ive got two plants in a small scrog theyve bin on 12/12 for 5 days now so when sould i clear all the growth from the bottom? and whats the latest i can take cuttings? also if u look at it from the top its mainly just leaves in the holes should i remove theese leaves so that the growth tips can come through?

You should have been pruning the bottom growth all along. I start the pruning when the plants are still in the 18 oz. cups. There's not much sense in the plant putting energy into growth I don't want. I'd get on the pruning real quick if I were you.
If necessary, move the leaves aside to let the tops grow through the screen, but just move them, don't cut them off.
If you want to take cuttings for clones, use the trimmings from your pruning. The further your plants get into flower, the less you want to cut them.

First off, you never remove leaves unless they are dying! Leaves make the food for the plant. The growth tips will find their way toward the light all by themselves. As for cuttings, sooner is better than later. Budded cuttings seem to take longer to develop roots, in my opinion. Plus they have to reveg.
I didn't remove the lower growth in my scrog, though some folks do. When the scrogged buds were ripe, the lower were still small, so I carefully chopped the screen off, lowered the lights and let the bottom go for a bit more. No, the bottom buds never achieved the size of the scrog buds, but they did grow a bit more after the main harvest. My replacement plants weren't quite big enough to put into the 12/12 closet, so it was not a problem to let the old plants go that extra time.
Why not run "scrog" through the search engine? You'd get all sorts of opinions that way!

Storm Crow - A scrog essentially has three levels of growth: the stems reaching up to the screen, all the vegetation that is tied to the screen; and the upper growth. I keep the stems coming from the pots stripped. The mid-growth I leave alone and, like you, give more time under the lights so that the air buds can get a little denser. (The later buds kinda suck, but I'm looking forward to making some good "couch lock" hash.) Are you saying that you don't even trim the first level of growth?

hi there, second that! NEVER CUT OF LEAVES UNLESS THEY ARE DEAD! the plant uses te leaves to absorb energy from ur light, if u remove them it will stunt growth and fk the yeild up. as the plant goes through flowering stage the larger leaves will die and fall off anyway s the plant will tak all the energy it can get from them to create buds then they wil drop off. you will prolly find actually cutting off crappy buds from lower down does more damage than good! just because u remove them this doesnt mean the plant puts newly saved energy into other buds because thats not how it works! when u remove them the plant then wastes energy to repair itself and then starts growing the crappy bugs again from scratch wasting more energy! believe me i believed that crap in the past and found only through experience that i was doing more damage than good. cutting any parts off plants causes damage and stress to the plant.

if i leave everything as it is and just redirect growth an tuck leaves away itll work out better?
am i right in thinking that ill have to put a fan under the screen
because itll get humid under there wont it?

hi there,
listen u can cut off little bits without killing it but its just not generally a good idea. and yes its very important to have a fan blowing them because this keep the air fresh and of low humidity while also stranghtening the stems and branches etc.

If I can get to my other computer today, I'll post a couple pics of what my scrog looks like under the screen. Even though I had all the under-screen branches stripped clean of vegetation, I still used a fan under the screen - as well as fans on top.Quote:

On the bright side, I made a lot of mistakes with my first scrog and still got a good yield. So, it may take a couple grows to really get the hang of things, but you can still get a good harvest while learning.

Yep, there is more than one way to scrog a plant! My set up is a bit different than most- I have both top and side lighting- a pair of tube fluoros on the back wall. So my bottom buds do better than most folk's do.
I gave up scrogging for LST (low stress training) where, instead of fiddling with screens, I just hang weights (bolts from my hubby's collection of rusty bolts) and use skewers and twist ties to bend the plants down. I grow in 19 gallon tubs and my plants are usually 6 to 10 inches high. However, they often cover the whole (18 x 24) top of the tub. I want horizontal growth, not vertical. That way all the buds get equal amounts of light and all grow quite nicely.
Scrogging is fun, you get to play with your plants a lot. LST is simpler to set up and maintain. To each their own! - Granny:hippy:
