Yeah so I was bored, sue me. I just wanted to make a pouch for my new one-hitter, which is stunning but has delicate glass lacework casing that makes me worried about carrying it in my pocket. The bag is just some fabric I had laying around, sewn with hemp cord of course and I made flowers out of glass beads and cowry shells. So they don't REALLY look like flowers but whatever.
Sounds cool..and I bet it looks nice..LOL..
I like arts and crafts..my biggest project ever was making beads for my doorways..all wooden beads of different sizes and colors but making a design..still hanging in my doorway..it has been a few different doorways in the 10 years that I have had them..kids have swung on them, had somebody try and rip em down..but they are strong..so I will have them forever.
That's really neat, Stinky! I could use a pouch like that... How do you make a drawstring pouch? I can't machine sew (none available) but I've repair-sewed my jeans lots of times by hand, so I know I can manage the stitching.
Stinky will probably know a better way to explain this, but here's how I've done it. Cut yourself out a circle of fabric which, if you hold it together at the edges to form the planned bag, is the size you want plus about a 1/2 inch of extra length around the edge so you can fold that down on the inside to form a hem at the top of your bag, only instead of a flat hem it'll be the fabric slot through which the drawstring travels. Then sew around the circle to hem your bag/create the drawstring tube (you can size the tube according to what you plan to use as your string). Somewhere along the tube, you'll want to make a slit from the top of the hemmed edge down to the seam (but not through the seam) so you'll have an entry and exit point for the drawstring. You can attach a safety pin to the drawstring as the lead to help you scooch it through the slot until you get all the way around to the other side of the slit/exit point. VoilĂ*! Drawstring bag!
My sewing skills aren't nearly what they should be, but I have made my share of drawstring bags and fabric envelopes to house china and crystal and silver pieces for storage. I even embroidered little holly leaves and berries on the bags I keep the holiday china in. It seems nuts to think I ever had enough time on my hands to do that!
Nowadays I mostly only cook. My crafts tonight have been making two pies and throwing together a pan of chicken enchiladas for tomorrow. After reading this, I wish I were sitting comfortably and sewing something instead . . . .

hey stinky, cool looken pouch you got thar. Have you been to the southshore mall lately? there was a guy there selling little stone cigerett holders. they are perfect one hitters, accualy you can fit like half a bowl in there.

My most thing is a lamp I made a few weeks ago where the base is a clear jar and inside is dirt with a few mung beans. The light provides just enough for growth although I had originally just planned on removing the sprouts (for salads and the like) I am now letting the plants slowly kill each other.

Nanner, I started with a rectangle and first tacked over the sides that were going to make the long edge of the sack. You have to do this so no raw edges will be exposed where the drawstring comes out. Then I folded down what was going to be the top into the inside part and sewed that down to make a sleeve for the drawstring. I sewed that shut with the drawstring already in it. Then I sewed the bottom edge inside-out. Then turned it right side out and whipstitched the long edge which I had already hemmed, stopping just where the drawstring came out. Voila! I have a sewing machine but I was too lazy to set it up, lol. I gotta get a better pic. Next time I make a pouch I'll do a step by step.
