help wiring fan thermostat.
hi all. first time poster long time reader. i just recently purchesed a line voltage thermostat to kill my fan @ night, because the temps are getting low. the thermostat is simply a black box with a knob with numbers around it wich is the temps. there are two wires comeing out of it, a blue and black. what i did was cut open a extenison cord and wire it in-line. cut the blk wire(hot) in half and wired the blue wire off the thermostat on to the blk wire going to the plug, then the black wire off the thermostat to the other end of the blk wire going to the fan. the thermostat works but in reverse of what i wanted it to do. is this because of the wiring? if i turn the temp up on the thermostat my fan cuts off. if i turn it down it cuts on. this i not what i want. any ideas?

Sounds to me like you are using a heating thermostat. What you want is a cooling thermostat.

yes i think your right. gonna return it and just do without. I think i gonna change my intake to pull from inside the house to fix the prob. just need to find some darkroom louvers. also what is a good temp for a veg cab? and is 4 T12 20watt tubes enough to veg 2 maybe 3 smaller plants with the light close?

Here is an item that can be used for both heating and cooling, one or the other not both at the same time. It won't let me post pics.

I have since bought a fan speed controler and slowed my fan as low it will go. This along with a small personal heater keeps temps around 72 right above the plant lights on. lights off temps are around 59 to 64. Is it ok to slow my fan all the way down?

Look at my last post today in my grow log. That is what you need to control your fan by temperature and not a timer or speed controller.
