Greenhouse? When to start?
Hi,
I was thinking about doing a greenhouse outdoors. Sick for the electric bill and worrying about heat and CO2 control shit.
obviously stealth is a worry so I was thinking about getting this one.
Flowerhouse FHSP300 - SpringHouse Greenhouse
It is a basic portable greenhouse. Allows 80% of ligt in. I read the reviews on the web-site and peeps seem to say it works great for their growing their veggies.
Does anyone have and links to good greenhouses specific for growing plants?
Also, what time of year is good to start outdoors? I am in texas.
is there like a farmer's almanac for this stuff?
Greenhouse? When to start?
plant outdoors after your last frost date (it is not a guarentee, since you can get the odd frost now and then) ours is may 15th but i bet yours is quite a bit earlier. i cant think of a particular site the farmers almanac would be good. just search frost dates for your state/area. you could actually start earlier if you moved them at night or kept them from getting frosted by a GH or plastic cover(like a cut off milk jug) you can still have heat issues in a GH so you will have to keep vent holes/flaps open during the day and close them at night if you expect a frost. to start earlier, i like to start them a month early indoors under a simple cfl light in 16oz party cups and then plant outdoors a week after the last frost date.
Greenhouse? When to start?
Is to watch for tomato and squash plants at your local grocery store! They usually get them around the average frost free date. No store wants to lose inventory! I'd wait a week or so more to be sure. I live in the mountains and weather is "iffy" at best! I have seen snow in June! :wtf: Hopefully, the weather and such are saner where you live!- Granny:hippy:
Greenhouse? When to start?
If you don't have lots of other plants growing/a really nice yard, ect., it might draw suspicion that you have a greenhouse. People that get a greenhouse has lots of plants they need to keep from freezing or out of the elements, or they are growing something illegal. I would think it would be easier to hide or better yet, disguise a plant than to grow in a greenhouse. I don't put my medicinal plants in my greenhouse for that exact reason. Everyone that comes over will want to know/see whats in there.
just something to think about
Texas has a long grow season anyway, no need for a greenhouse unless you want to grow herb through the winter :)
Greenhouse? When to start?
nope, weather is not any more sane here, lol. the great lakes have someting to do with that. also true that someone (friends or not) might want to check and see what you have in a GH, i know i would! if it was a friend of course, so out of site is out of mind.
