OK, So I germinated 4 seeds and put them in soil with some perlite and put under coolwhite CFL's, It's been 7 days and only 2 of them sprouted and they look like shit, they are only out of the soil a tad bit and almost look yellow, and the seed is still connected to them, Now the other 2 seeds are no where to be found.I dug up ome soil and the 2 other seeds I planted are not there anymore, what could of happend ??? Ill have pictures up soon.
well some pics will help, but i dont think the seedlings discinigrated, maby lookin in the wrong place
Second set was either physically removed from the pot (unlikely, you'd have to have a FURRY pest problem...), or they rotted.
I am going to go with the latter. IT sounds to me like you had hard-husked seeds. It's not uncommon for a seed's shell to be so tough that the seedling has difficulty cracking or shedding it. Since you said that the surviving seedlings still haven't shed their shells, I'd say those were some tough husks!
Next time you germinate your seeds, before you put them in to soak, scape or scuff along the sharpest edge of the seed gently with a nail file. Not too much. It will be much easier to shed. Were these commercial bagseeds by the way? Out of a bag of some form of compressed weed? A couple of those burly workhorse production strains have amazingly large and tough seeds.
hahaha, Well its been 8 days and the shell was still on the seedlings so I pulled it off and the seedlings were brown so I just killed them hahaha. This time after I germinate I am gonna put them in a really small pot thats like 2 inch'd deep and 2 inches wide rather then then the 4 inch pot. As far as the other 2 seeds go...I dumped all the soil out and there were NO seeds anywhere. No animal can get to where my spot is so I have no idea what happend.
honestly, I just planted 3 germinated seeds in 8inch pots, and all 3 popped within 2 days. They are all doing great. So, if I was to guess, something else was going on besides the container size. Maybe you let the soil dry out, or santa clause came early and snatched them up so you would be "good" this year. You could have over watered, or burnt the roots while placing them in the soil, roots don't like light.
OR maybe the siren guys/popo's/umm those dudes with badges came and gave you a christmas gift by taking all those seeds out so you wouldn't be charged with intent to sell........MAYBE I'm smoking something other than weed, but, the container size, isn't your issue. :stoned::stoned::stoned::stoned:
I never said the container size was my problem, I was just simply stateing that im going to use a smaller one next time. I think I know what my problem was. I have this soil with time release balls filler with fertilizer, BUT before I planted the seeds i went thru the soil about 10 times and pulled out every single one of those balls. Maybe I missed one or 2 and they released, that would explain why they were brown, and not growing hahaha. I am going to the store tonight and getting new soil that is just plain potting or planting soil and im getting more perlite and perhaps bone meal. Can I add bonemeal to my seedlings ? I mean I am going to mix the soil and perlite and bonemeal all together as soon as I get it or like 2 days before I plant the seedlings.
