Will this work!

Ive been wondering if this cabinet that I have hanging around will work as a small bud factory. Im not looking for huge yields. I can fit three 1 gallon pots in it and plan on LSTing. I think I could produce some nice bud. I'll be working with clones. Im new to indoor growing (outdoors has always been my thing) so any help would be great.

Will the fans at the top be enough to remove the heat from the light? The ballast will sit on top of the cab. Do I need both squirrel cage fans for the filter, cubic feet for the whole cab is just over 8cf

Hi Joe, Looks similar to what I built, but I'm trying to understand what you're doing with the glass under the light. Why don't you get a sealed reflector instead and duct it for cooling? Unless you're trying to watch your $$.. I use a 600w digital with HPS and MH conversion bulbs, air cooled reflector. I'd also watch your dimensions, my box has about 18" in the bottom chamber and it's not quite tall enough, I'd recommend 24". The overall dimensions of my box are 48" W x 28" D x 86" H.

Hey Rich, I would love to use a sealed reflector but can't fit one in and $$ is also a problem. The main problem is that my depth is only 12". I could fit a 6" cooltube but wouldnt be able to vent the hot air out of the top of my cab(not enought room to bend 6" tubing up. I thought with the glass it would seal the light in its own little room and be easier to vent up. The space would act like a vented reflector. The space is about 1 cubic foot so a 25 cfm fan would refresh the space 25 times in 1 minute. As for the mother/clone room I was hoping I could fit it in but this plan isnt set in stone. What lights do you use in your lower chamber? I was thinking of using it for a Bonsai mother less than 1ft total height, maybe some clones down the road.

In the bottom, I have 2 x 24" daylight floros, plus 3 screw in sockets for CFLs. The problem I ran into was using a mini-green house in the bottom, too tall. I can slide it in with the CFLs in, but I would have liked to have about 2-3" more room. I also got a shorter greenhouse lid for new seedlings so I can raise it toward the lights to prevent stretching. If I do clones, the regular greenhouse will probably be cool. I need to add ventilation in the bottom, going to use passive vents and an exhaust fan of some kind.

On your box, how stealthy are you trying to be? I can tell you, mine is loud and a cabinet just over 7' tall isn't what you'd call inconspicuous. Since you have a carbon filter in your design, I'm guessing your concerned.. Are you thinking the carbon filter set-up is going to adequately cool the main chamber?

Im hoping that with refreshing the cab with fresh air fast enough with the filter and small cpu fans pushing the air around in the main chamber temps will be doable. What do you think?

hey joesmoe,maybe in the place were the light is you should just one pc fan to just vent out the heat and just do a passive air on the other side to bring in cool air.And you dont really need a squireal cage just a pc fan that pulls 70 cfm and just place some replacement carbon filter over it.That carbon filter is like the exact thing as a filter, you can buy at home depot for 21$.Just cut out a piece and place it over the pc fan and the air being sucked through is clean,and you can use some bounce dryer sheets for a good clean scent.

I planned on making a filter real cheap and easy with carbon dust or maybe it was pellets but what kind of carbon filter are you talking about? Have you used one the way you are talking about?

For the top part of my grow cab is 7 inches enough space or will the bulb catch the top of my cab on fire. I will be using mylar or white paint. How hot does a 250w hps get?
