how to pack in soil..?

After I got done transplanting a clone, I noticed the soil wasnt compact.. kinda fluffy. Is that a good thing..? how tight are you suppose to pack it..? I never really knew.. Also how much are you supposed to water a young clone..? till it drains underneath, or half that.. lol idk.. still figuring it all out..:rasta:

Hydro is more my thing, but I do get clones or seeds going in soil sometimes.

I compact the soil very slightly, just enough so the clone will stand up well when a small fan blows on it. Upon doing so, water thoroughly until soil is good and wet. It should be running through the bottom. Put a very small amount of SuperThrive or some other B1 into the water. Solution and dirt should be PH 6.5-6.8. Let that dry out almost completely, or until you see the first signs of thirst (droopy). Then you can water again using a small amount of food, 1/4 strength or less, and increase to full gradually over a month or so.

Works well for me.

Oh yeah, and fill your container very near the top with soil, while allowing a little lip for water to pool in, and so it won't splash out. It will settle over time, and you want to give the roots as much room as possible.

okie dokie.. Thanks Opie. finally a reply from someone. well I left the cubes on them when i put them in dirt. Im sure thats ok.. got Two og's and a black bahia vegging.

All of a sudden, in the last week or two, there's been a rash of people thinking that leaving the Rapid Rooter/rockwool cube on the clone is somehow discretionary. :wtf: You made the right decision here, but, just so you know, don't ever mess with the RR/r'wool cube that a clone comes in. The cube has all the new roots passing through it and attempting to remove the cube/RR will probably kill the plant.

Perhaps it's because of what I said in the Aeroponic Grow thread, when I thought a RR was a sponge causing root rot. Sorry folks, it looked like a sponge to me.
