Breaking ground
I have FINALLY started my first grow. Germed 10 seeds, lost one to davey jones locker(my sink), and another 3 for none compliance. So I got 6 that busted open and ive thrown them in the pots, about a half inch deep. How long does it usually take to break ground, should I turn my lights on yet?

Breaking ground
Congrats on the seeds cracking. I find that when growing indoor in the winter, one of the biggest issues early on is maintaining a high enough heat in the grow room. I grow in a basement and use CFLs for seedlings so it can get pretty cold in the growroom these months.
I plant my seeds when the root growing out of the seed is about a quarter to a half inch in three inch by one inch pots. Sometimes I'll check on germinating seeds, notice they're cracked, and then put them back to grow a slightly larger root before planting. As soon as the I plant my seeds, I put the lights on (mainly for heat), about ten inches from the top of the pot, until they sprout. Usually within three days, all of my seeds have broken the surface, and they tend to shoot for the light.
I put the lights on an 18/6 schedule.
