The world ending as we know it
Something a friend wrote...
''water tables all over the world are lowering at astounding rates that take 1000's of years to replenish, desertification is affecting many parts of the SW USA, india, china, and tons of other mass populations in developing countries. About 500 000 000 people in the world right now dont have enough fresh water to drink. The colorado river which carved the grand canyon, doesnt make it to the ocean any more. The Yellow river in China, rarely makes it to the ocean, the Nile is drying up. It takes 1300 tonnes of water to grow one tonne of wheat. As Countries in Asia develop a better standard of living they eat more wheat, China went from self sufficiency to importing a few billion tonnes of wheat in the past 5 years. Japan produces almost none of its own.
There is no alternative to oil. Wind and Solar make up maybe 1% of the worlds energy needs. Hydrogen is a form of energy storage not production, it takes more electricity to seperate hydrogen from water than you actually get from the hydrogen. If every single inch of land on Earth was harvested, there would not be enough ethanol to fuel our power plants and vehicles. Besides what would we eat? It takes 10 calories of energy to produce 1 calory of food. More than that for meat. Nuclear waste from Nuclear energy is too pullutive. HAHAHA man I could go on and on. this has NOTHING to do with pessimism, our way of life is at the very core, deep deep deep down, unsustainable, we have no foresight and less understanding of the affects our actions have on the earth. Truth hurts, but dont confuse realism with pessimism. Our planet does have about 5 billion years until its engulfed by the sun. But the planet doesnt need us at all, it would be better off without us. But we do need the planet. I dont mean to scare anyone, but the situation isnt a big secret, the way we live right now will not last much longer. Were pretty clever and resourcefull so its unlikely humans will dissapear, but our population isnt going to stay as high as it is for much longer. So how will the survivors live? they wont be concerned with politics I can assure you.
Can any one of us concieve of the amount of goods transported across the world at the moment? NO, the scale is so beyond anything that 1 person can concieve of its stupid. Do you know how many miles the food we eat tavels? That 10 to 1 calorie remark was not even taking into acount transportation or refridgeration. you CAN NOT fly a 747 on vegetable oil or a battery, you CAN NOT fuel an ocean freighter on bio-fuel or electricity. Lets assume for the sake of being stupid, that some miracle energy source is discovered on Earth, a free endless supply of Hydrogen, or development in nano-tachnology, or something equally outlandish. Who will pay to redesign and REBUILD every single vehicle on Earth, and how will that fuel be distributed? Heres some silly questions to ask yourself, how much of the food you eat comes from within 100km of your home? How will you drive to work or school, WHEN gasoline is $10 a litre? What will you do the first time you see that your local grocery store has closed down?
Nothing to be afraid of Im sure... someone else will come up with something. I mean, we live in North America... its not like, were actually mortal or anything.
HAHAHAHAHA live it up everyone, seriously. Things will not be this way for very long, we are not immortal, and we are not ready. This is a cry out to everyone here to do what you need to do now, because the last thing any of us wants is regrets. The time scale were dealing with is not generations, it is not even decades."
