I just use regular old light sockets, either plastic or ceramic base. I can't find them online at Lowes, but they sell them there for a bit over a dollar a piece. I'm certain Home Depot has them as well, but I think they are a bit more expensive. It depends on how much you really want to put into it. You can also get the worklights, the ones with the metal reflectors on them that are a bit more expensive. The only thing with them is you are more mobile since most of them have a clamp to hang them in your grow room, but for me I find thats just something else to drop on my plants. I use a standard metal electrical box, the plastic light socket mounted on that wired to several others with 14-2 wire.
edit: here's a pic
I found some standard bases, just the socket part with a tiny "L" bracket on them at Home Depot for 2 or 3 bucks. You can get a couple of those and mount them to a piece of pipe or even a block of wood as they really don't get hot. And yes as theganjaking pionts out use at least 14/2 wire. WHITE WIRE GOES TO SILVER SCREW. You can pick up a plug there too. Make sure all your connections are nice and neat. Screw terminations always go clockwise to ensure they are nice and tight and never overlap themselves. But don't crush the wire because it might break. You can get those basic keyless fixtures GK is talking about at any hardware store. If you're at all unsure about wiring it stick with those drop light things with the clamp and reflector. GK420, you can solve the falling down problem with an electrical staple over the clampy thing. I have actually been using a couple of those loaded with colored spots and clamped to my PA speaker stands for acoustice gigs and they work great and cost a fraction of what a light show costs plus I don't have to pay a light guy.
Yeah no problem with wiring. Guess im gonna need to go take a peek at HD or lowes. I coulda swore I looked there but never saw anything, must have been in the wrong section. As for wiring I have a 20amp extension cord im gonna use.
Santa, check out home depot. I went there tonight and picked up 2 3x Ceiling Fan lighting kits which were less than $10 each. It's like a 3 pronged light fixture. Slapped 6 19 watt CFLs in there, and called a night.
