HPS Question

Hi.
I was wondering if you can get away with using a HPS light for the entire growth cycle, veg & flowering?

Or do I absolutely need a Metal halide light for the veg?

I've never owned a MH.
I use a hortilux HPS bulb start to finish w/ good resuls .
