Ebb and Flow Medium Discussion

Switching to an ebb and flow system. Curious what you guys use for a medium to do so. I was considering Hydroton but I am reconsidering. I currently use SunShine#9... someone told me you can use this for an ebb and flow?

I would assume thats a pretty damn heavy medium to use for an ebb and flow system but he said he has a close friend who does it. What y'all use?

P.S I wanted to use the SunShine and figured it may be okay if I used 50% perlite as well in the mix.
