OK so i read a few days back that you top your plants because you like to grow more sativas. i am also growing a sativa plant right now and man does this sucker stretch. i flowerd it at 9 inches and its already at 3 feet after 4 weeks of flowering. if i would have topped the plant would that have cut down on the stretch?

hi, Romdog ... yeah, topping keeps the height down some, about a 6"-8" difference in my last couple comparisons, but they were shorter hybrids, anyway ... plus, it permits the secondary branches to flower more heavily, which more than makes up for the loss of the main cola ... the 'growing enzyme' (as it was explained to me) resides in the tallest portion of a plant ... topping or bending, allows the secondary branches to then be the tallest, and sprout more buds ... you probably already knew that ... anyway, I got into the habit of topping, to keep plants shorter, and I think the yield improves a bit ... and, actually, these days I'm growing hybrids like most people ... my present project is a 50/50 strain, but I steer towards the hybrids with the 'sativa' effects ...

thank you image thats the info i was looking for. i really hope to keep them down an extra 6-8 inches. that would make managing this sativa so much easier. i tried to give you some reputation but it says i need to spread more reputation before i give you another one but i tried ! thanks again

Anyone have any experience with doing LST during flowering? I mean, I've got a couple sativas that are about 2 feet in veg and I'm gonna flip them into 12/12 soon, and there is no way I'm going to let them get to be 5 or 6 feet, so I was thinking about very gently tying them and coaxing them to grow horizontally so that I don't have to have my HPS all the way at the ceiling, making it pretty much useless for my MKs that are MUCH shorter.

lol scag your going to have to do something! im no pro when it comes to LST BUT im in the same situation as you. i got one sativa that is growing thourgh my roof! and i got some mandala sadhus that are nice compact indicas that i have to raise up on boxes so they dont miss out on the light. it sucks to be in that siatuation. from what ive heard i think if you lst them you will get much shorter plants.
