seedling/sprouting/help - please
hey guys,
i just wanted to ask a question about sprouting. I have germinated a seed about a week ago and while germinating i let the seed crack open and it had started to grow out a little. I then plantd it in a mixture of perlite/vermicuolite and soil. I let it sit until today and notihn had really happened so i finally went poking around and found the seed had somehow gotten about half way down the pot threw the soil. The seed had not really changed at all nd did not have a tail as expected. Could his be normal, should i begin germination of another one? I ended up just replanting this seed at the top of the soil again for now
I also have another seedling going and it HAS sprouted and began having some leaves poke out of the ground but this was about a week ago and since then it has not grown at all. I have a feeling this plant might of had some stress, do you think it is either stunted or dead. If it dies, how would i know or atleats what shoul di look for regarding being stunted?
thanks in advance,

You are correct that the seed should not be half way down the container. It should be 1/2 inch or so below the top. Maybe when you watered it the soil settled. You should soak your container, then insert the seed and keep warm and moist.
For the other one this is normal. It's probably kinda shocked at the light and the new environment. You do have the light back aways, don't you? As long as it looks like it's not moldy or dieing it will probably grow soon. Remember warm and moist. (Sorry I aint stinky.)

I do have the light on it. I have been using 24/0 for now and also have moved it a little closer to the light - about 5-6 inches away. It seems to look as if its leaves are drying out as they are developing creases and the smaller more round leaves are the ones turning yellow. I the soil i have s mixed about 1:3 perite/soil. I hope i havet damaged it too badly.
I just noticed it seems to have smaller leaves developing so growth could be ok. It just doesnt seem to be growing taller yet.
ideas? or opinions?

You should have your light (I'm assuming a fluoro) at least a foot back from the plant when it first emerges, farther for HID. Over a period of about 2 or 3 weeks you move it gradually closer until it is as close as possible.
Again first rounded leaves dying is normal. Keep em warm and moist.

Honestly if you want stronger plants, germinate the seed in whatever medium your planning on using for the grow...Sounds like the seed was maybe weak. Is it just bag seed? Anyways I have found the best way to germinate seeds is soak them in warm water for 8 hours, tap on them in a few hours as they should sink...(usually a sign the seed you have is good) afterwards plant the seeds in the medium you plan on using about 1/4 to 1/2 inch in depth. For best results put the seed on its side....In about a week you should see the beginning of a new plant.
