would like to clear up possible myth's ??

i have an uncle that grew alot back in the 70's and 80's, and i was talkin to him and he was askin me how my setup was, and i was telling him, and we got to the light cycles and i was telling him i was doing 18/6 veg and 12/12 on flower and he told me that was all wrong and he had a book that said u are supposed to reverse meaning if ur doing 18/6 then u switch it to 6/18 is there any truth to this or is he and the book wrong??and he said if u don't do it like that it will cause hermie's??

i don't see any truth in this, then we talk about male /fem and i said i take out all males so they don't drop there pollen, and he said i was wrong again. that ur supposed to leave 1 male in the room, and pinch off the balls when u see them so u will trick the fems as they can tell when there is no males, in the area and 1 outta the bunch will turn hermie, as they talk to each other and if theres no males, then they will know that there no way to reproduce offspring, so 1 out of the bunch will turn hermie, to make sure they cont on is this true? or another street myth?

as im thinking i know people talk aot of shit, out there and people like him take it all and mesh it all together, and come up with this off the wall bs, or is this true? or is this what they used to think back b4 they new whats what??then he told me u have to 1/4 turn ur plants everyday to trick them to think it's the sun, and if u don't they won't grow like they should, and stress and hermie that way as well and he ran a cycle of 12 plants at a time, and yielded 15lbs each time in a shed that was 8x8x6 is this even possible?? just wanted to find out whats bs and not i think it's all bs but i may be wrong???

old wives tales i think, and not a very good reader. no offence, but he is full of shit. he got just about everything wrong.

yea theres definitely a lot of misinformed people out there and people who just keep repeating wrong information to others. just keep in mind natural biological processes and photosynthesis. it's a flowering plant, it will typically react like most other general flowering plants. the light cycles and leaving one male in a room of sinsemilla sounds all wrong. but, the turning the plants every once in a while is not too bad of an idea. ive tried with and without turning and the turning definitely produces to a certain extent a rounder more full "tree"

This would be the one I'd be interested in doing a very controlled study of. It's unclear how or whether plants can communicate chemically. Even so, to say with confidence that you must leave one male is totally silly. You're never going to catch all the balls, so either way you'd get seeded, lol!

If you're using too little or oddly arranged lighting, turn your plants.... but read the next statement... this guy WASN"T using insufficient lighting if it is true:

OVer a pound per plant indoors, crispi does it in DWC, but for that much yield you would have to be running over 12k of HPS lighting, doing everyhting perfectly, and exhausting it all from a 8x6 space? I call MAJOR BS, especially since if he was doing this back in da day before HID lighting was commonly used for grows and the modern squat high-yielding indoor indicas were available to the home grower... not plausible.

ps he said he used 2,1000w hps on each end of the room

or, maybe his resulting plants were so good, it confused him years later, when he was telling you ... :thumbsup: ... I like growing stuff that confuses me, especially if it lasted that long ... :S2:
