I really want to smoke in my dorm, unfortunately there's a smoke detector in my room. Is there any way I can temporarily bypass it?
Would just placing a sock over it work or not?
Hey, at least the topic's original :P

Uh, take the batteries out?
useally when i smoke in my room the detector wont go off but yet again thats at a house idk i guess it depends on how sensitive it is smoke a cigar in there see if it goes off at first and if it doesnt then you should be good
blow your smoke out the window. :rasta:
I would just take a grocery bag or something and duct tape it around the smoke detector .. I have never tried it myself but i would imagine that it would work..
Well, I have 3 things to say.
- I've never had any smoke alarm go off in any indoor area while smoking.
- I've put a large piece of tape over the detector holes.
- Or you can take the batteries out. :p
I wanted to hotbox my shower a few weeks ago so I did some research on the issue. I believe that cannabis smoke is somehow too thin or something, so it doesn't get detected by your alarm.
But the I realized I didn't even have smoke detectors, but automatic sprinklers, and those are set off by heat as opposed to smoke. So I went ahead and smoked a fat spliff as I showered... no, it didn't get soaked.
Exhale into a fan blowing out from in the window... The tape/bag thing would probably work, but if it's all going out the window it doesn't matter.
Like the above person said, place a plastic bag over it and duct tape it. when the smoke has cleared pull it off and it should hold it s shape and you can reuse it next time. This is what we do when we have to weld indoors at work, If it keeps out nasty ass welding fumes its sure to work on weed smoke.
If its a wired detector it would set off the alarm if u take it down. The best thing to cover it with is a plastic shower cap like the ones you get in hotels n such. Used to do it all the time when i stayed over when i worked in a hotel..
