Just wanted to thank everyone who helped me with advice and giving me info to help with all the problems I had. Well, I lost all the plants and and have started all over again. Not discouraged, a little depressed maybe, but I haven't given up. I really cleaned out my system and sterilized it. There was alot of awful shit in the drain pipe and in the pump. I couldn't believe all the shit that was in that little pump. Well, thanks to all and I wish I could give you all a hug. Willow
hey willow, sorry to hear about your plants. mine are still hanging in there, but there is never a day that goes by that is a breeze. LOL. i know what you mean about that small pump. whenever i do a changeover i take that pump and work it over really good. today, i just took one of the baskets that i'm not using, put the pump in the basket, put nylon around the basket so there will be NO uptake of any of that nasty white stuff that i know you know what i'm talking about.
my roots are getting so thick and look so great, but it is back up my gully, i raised the level a bit to help in the drainage. i'm talking your idea about the drainage system and will work on that soon.
however, i'm not sure what light you got with your system, i got the 400W HPS light and just learned the other day that i should have about 4 ft from the light to top of plant with that kind of light!!! so i went to home depot and just got some more 3/4 PVC pipes and added 22 inches on each side. i could not get 4 feet due to ceiling level, but have it around 3 1/2 feet now. just wanted to pass on to my fellow NFT buddy that bit of info IF you have the same light that it should be higher than what the system is built for.

Kuri, I have the same light as you do and I haven't kept it that far away from my plants and didn't have a problem with that. Once, overnight part of my plant got a little burned so I did raise the light up but never four feet. I used the extensions that came with the kit, luckily I have vaulted ceilings so I can go pretty high up, I think the light was about two feet above the mature plants. But, I've only had two successful crops and I think that it was beginner's luck. Also, I had pretty nice clones for the first two crops and now I am using seeds and I don't even know what kind of seeds they are. Anyway, sounds like a good idea about the basket around the pump. I was thinking about doing something like that but couldn't come up with a good idea. Let me know how it works. I'll keep in touch. Willow
I use a 400 watt hps and a 400 watt mh and keep them 16-18 inches above my plants. never had them burn , of course i keep 2 fans blowing constantly 24/7 on them. I also control the temp in the room. the plant needs as much light as possible, especially when flowering, closer is better but not too close to burn them.

I keep fans running all the time also, and have only had one problem with a little burning that one time, but that was my stupid fault for not paying close enough attention. Thanks heartsurgerysurviver for any help you give us. Willow
