high times says shwag and mids usually have mold?

i found this on high times website and it worries me because cheap commercial is all i can get, and i cant get it often, so i usually get a decent bit and store it in prescription bottles:


What do you know about a mold on pot? Two bags were packed in a ziplock bag and then rolled into a brown bag. In the dark, we didn't notice anything unusual, but in the daylight, we noticed a fine dust/fur on each bud in both bags. It appears to be a mold. It's sort of a grayish/white. Know anything about this?

A: What you describe could be any of a number of molds or funguses that commonly attack cannabis.The most common cause of these infestations is improper drying and curing. If the plant matter is stored in airtight containers before it is fully dried, anaerobic bacteria and mold spores will flourish. Almost all commercial "brown" weed has some type of mold and bacteria. In general and in small quantities, it's not terribly harmful. However, there are several types of molds and bacteria that can be quite harmful, even life threatening. In the future, dry your harvest completely. It should crumble easily, but not into dust, and burn well, leaving a nice white ash behind. If you find mold, the safest thing to do is to get rid of the buds.(NOTE FROM THE EDITOR: You should NOT smoke any cannabis that shows signs of mold. Smoking mold can result in lung infections. No matter what the cannabis was worth or cost in monetary terms, the negative impact of a lung infection would cost much more.)

i c idk bout that though ive had plenty of mid grade as well as kind nugs in my day and the only times my buds ever had mold was my own doing, not at time of buy
