Happy Birthday, Birdie!

I hope those of you who are her friends will join me in wishing Birdgirl a very happy birthday today. (Even though it's late.) She has had a long day, a rough week, and is a little down. In fact, she's had a tough year, what with the loss of her sis and some serious health issues of her own to contend with. You have never seen a stronger, more determined person persevere in spite of obstacles that would knock a lesser person on his ass. She is quite simply the most amazing person I know.

Bird had a long day of school and obligations. I gave her a back rub tonight, a pill for her back/neck spasms, and put her to bed on a heating pad. She's out like a light, rest she desperately needs. I know how much she loves this place and the people on it, so tomorrow I hope she'll wake up and be happy to see a few birthday greetings from her friends even if she gets them a day after. If I'd been smarter, I'd have written this earlier today.

Birdie, I love you more than you know. Tonight at dinner, I looked over at the radiant face of a 30 year old, not a 46 year old, and I was amazed yet again at the fact you chose me 24 years ago and stay with me still. Happy Birthday, sweetheart.
