Multiple grow questions (but all educated)
Ok, so I really want to grow my own because I don't really trust the marijuana grown in my city (or out of it, whichever) so I'm planning a grow.
This is what I have planned and ready to build:
- 2.5ft² stacked on top of each other (.5ft is for the light on top)
- (1) 6500K and (1) 2700K CFL lights per plant stage at 68W (4200 lumens each)
- i'll be growing in soil (equal parts vermiculite, soil, perlite)
1) My questions is, will 4200 lumens per stage (veg and budding) be enough? Especially during budding, I know reproduction requires much energy. I could fit another bulb in there if it is necessary. So should I add another 6500K/2700K light perspectively (and raise lumens to 8400 per stage)?
2) I'm planning on utilizing the sea of green method but with one (1) plant only. I will start the 12/12, even 11/13 if it's necessary, at 6" like I've read in some guides, and I'll be using Northern Lights seeds.
3) Will my plant, given the correct pH level, produce male and female flowers so that I can pollinate and produce more seeds for future use? This is so important, I hate how seeds are so expensive online but with good reason of course, and I don't want to have to spend more money after my setup is done.
This is gonna be a box made of foam board, simple circuitry, every square inch inside covered mylar. I just need a second opinion before I start cutting because those foam boards are NOT cheap. :icon506: ($6.00+ at Staples and I bought 6 lol).
Another note: would you recommend increasing the volume to 28" stacked on top of each other (5.5ft² total including light space) to allow more room for the plant?

Hey dude. I'll try my best to help ya out here.
1. Dont measure the light output in lumens measure it in total watts. The standard is at least 50 watts per cubic foot not square foot. So figure that out and you'll have your number. I would add whatever lighting it takes to get to that number. Also use jsut the cool bulbs for veg and a combo of both cool and warm for flowering.
2. Go with 12/12 not 11/13
3. No. You will get either male plants or females plants. There is a chance of a hermie plant(which is both sexes)but you do not want this plant to pollinate itself or any of your females. Once they show sex(2nd week of 12/12 usually) remove the males from the females. You dont want seeds in your bud. They degrade the bud and reduce thc significantly. One option to using seeds is to take cuttings of a mother plant.
Keep in mind for the dimensions of the box that the plants will double even triple sometimes during the flowering stage. Also figure in the pot size as well. Good luck.
heres a link to my grow log to give ya some ideas.

Already read them all Pharm as well as tons of info from all over the net. I'm pretty sure i know what i am doing by how my plants are growing. There is no one set way to grow you have to go with the flow and give the plants what they need as they need it.
