Ugh, tired of new bosses...hate this job now (Long Read)
When I first came out here to Indiana I enrolled into College and started looking for work. However with college classes taking priority and having to rely on Indianapolis's lousy bus system to take me back and forth I am EXTREMELY limited to what days and hours I can work, and they can vastly change quarter to quarter as my classes fall different days and times.
After looking for work for months, and no one wanting to hire me because of this my teacher at the time, who also worked as the facitilies manager got me hired on as a Workstudy in the bookstore. This worked great as being a workstudy they completely understood and demanded that I put classes first, plus since it was at the school I didn't have to take the bus from school to get to my job which meant I could work more hours. But it was set in stone then when I got hired on that it was impossible for me to work on nights and weekends due to bus scheduling. (the bus only comes by college 3 times a day on week days) This was understood and pretty much the reason I worked there. It was a great job, with a great boss and I've worked there for about 2 years.
About 4 months ago there was a huge change at my college. This old Director of the school quit and she was replaced. At the same time the manager of Finance was replaced and my boss in the bookstore (my teacher)'s position was eliminated and he was sent back to being a full time teacher. They hired a repair guy full time to take on a lot of the building fixes my boss used to do. They put the bookstore workstudies under the control of Finance, but the repair guy works in the bookstore. (Where "He can give us work to do but isn't our boss)
Well all this new staff decided to completely change how things run, the director has some asinine thing where she feels workstudies shouldn't be there just because they need a job, but because they need "work environment experience" (Which I have years of already), she feels in kinder words that we should be kissing their asses feeling privleged that we are allowed the "honor" of being a workstudy. She also doesn't care how things worked before, she doesn't care how good of an employee I was before the changes, she stated as far as she's concerned (and I should be to she says) that everything is brand new starting when she took over. They can't seem to decide who they want giving us orders, the repair guy larry isn't intended to be our boss, but then they act like he can order us around and tell us what to do (that's a boss in my view) but he is....well lets say he isn't the brightest bulb in the bunch.. and he is INSANELY aggravating. Him and I have gotten into it a lot, I can't stand him.
And just today I check my email and my boss (finance) sent me an email saying I have to work Mon - Wed Night next week and he also wants me there during the day to. I could have swore I told him about my scheduling/transportation issues before when he first took over as our immediate boss/supervisor. But I emailed him back explaining to him why there is NO possible way for that to happen.
What was once a great job with a great boss is now a job I dread going in to every day. Before I tried to put in as many hours as my scheduling allowed me to, but now I try to get as much time off as possible. Everyone that I liked working with is gone (my boss, my co-worker who was my best friend around) I'm stuck with people I either have no common interests with (so no one to talk to) or completely hate.
But until I get my license and a car I'm stuck there...

If you're stuck there, then there isn't a whole lot you can do. You have to suck it up and accept the new changes at the store. You get paid by the hour, so when they ask you to do stuff, go at your own pace and get it done.
Someone there has to be the boss and has to direct you in the days tasks, so yes, you have to take orders from someone. As long as you get a break for 15 minutes every 2 hours then you have nothing to complain about, because that is how most work places operate.
Find a new job elsewhere or closer to home if you don't like it. Suck it up, or leave. It's harsh, but I have a boss, and so does everyone else. Yes, it sucks sometimes, but get used to it. :)

I'd have a talk with your new boss about your concerns. Surely some things can be ironed out, unless she's a total bitch. I had a boss like that, who came in and made all sorts of changes. At first I did not like it, but I went and discussed with her, and not only did she understand where I came from, but I understood where she was coming from.
That boss, who I thought was a bitch at first, ended up being the best boss I ever had.

Sadly, I have talked with her, she is this is the way it is with her stance. I'm a lowly workstudy and my view is of little importance to the school. I'm neither an asset to the company or a long term employee (my job will end the day I finish school, regardless) My conflicts/disagreements with the repair man they hired she basically said to my face that whoever was at fault even if it was him, that I would be the one fired if it came down to it because he "has already saved her more money than his salary" But that's simply because he has air conditioning and heating repair training so instead of hiring a crew as my former boss did, he fixes it himself. In other areas I've seen him waste more than my former boss ever would have.
It's not so much having a boss, as it is having too many bosses or no clear way of putting who is in charge. According to them I answer to finance manager as my main boss and up the chain is her. The repair man isn't my boss, she stated that very clearly but yet he is apparently able to order out work assignments and tell us how we are to run things in the bookstore...it's confusing and doesn't make sense and I can't get her to clarify. If he is not our boss he shouldn't be doing such things...
I'm stuck until I get a car of my own. Then that will unlock the time and ability for me to get around easier and I can apply for things and actually have a decent workable shift. But a car is probably a ways off still. I'm just pissed as this was a great job until a quarter ago, one that I figured would get me through till I get my degree. These people not only ruined that but make each day I have to go in a bad day.
