in response to the "what was it like growing up" thread of course...
are you happy with your life now, or would you rather be back then? how is your life now compared to back then?
then it was carefree, but unbelievably life is simpler now for me... while i do miss my childhood i think i'd rather be here now, rather than then..
Whenever I think about that philosophical question, I always remind myself that back then my life was no less difficult as it is today and the only difference being the set of problems changes over time. I have a lot of bills to pay every month but in terms of self-actualization and leading an independent life, I'm probably leading a better life. I'm 27 and one problem with this section of life is everyone goes off their separate ways; e.g. friends get married, buy houses, and that usually spells "too busy" to hang out with me; and there's the thing about working at the office becoming all too consuming. But then I think about how I meet new people and I can control over my career.
I had a rough childhood, in terms of a speech/learning disability, and so I never really had the standard carefee childhood, but I do have to say life has been improving and I look forward to the future. They say your 30's are the best years and I look forward to seeing how that pans out.

Childhood. I miss those days. I'd do almost anything to be 5 or 6 again.
Well, sometimes being an adult is scary and crappy (so damn expensive!), but its also exciting to me too. I think its a love/hate thing for me.
I am very happy where I am at today in life. I'm going to be 42 in a couple of weeks and I'm right where I want to be in life. :thumbsup:
I do not miss my childhood at all. My life was controlled then. Now I control my life. I like that much, much better. (I have extreme issues with feeling "controlled".)
Some of the decisions I've made over the years may not have been the best decisions, but they were my decisions. And my mistakes. Because it's my life.
I chose my life. And I like it!:jointsmile:
Happy with my adult life and glad to be here rather than a kid again.
I miss the carefree, reesponsibility-free aspects of childhood and the fun, too, of things like Christmas or Halloween or even just bedtime stories and playing in the yard without a care in the world. But as I've gotten older, I've gotten smarter, calmer, more free, more connected with others, and more comfortable with myself. Sure, bills, responsibilities, work/school and day-to-day drudgery are a pain, as are deaths of loved ones, illness, raising children, and other miseries that adults have to endure. But that's the territory that comes with adult life, too. The bad, as CS Lewis learned, makes you appreciate the good all the more, at least if you let it and don't dwell on the bad stuff. I only have to think about alternatives like death or prison to know I'll take the freedom and the joy along with the misery.
I'm thinking of making a case against Toys R Us because despite buying my toys there exclusively for many years, I still seem to have grown up. I don't really feel like a "Toys R Us kid", though technically I am. WTF Toys R Us? I may make it a class action suit, but then I wouldnt win as much.
