The DEFINATIVE guide to Cannabis Cookies

The only recipe youâ??ll ever need!

Firstly, let me start by saying that sadly, in my experience, much of the information written in public forums on the internet regarding cooking with cannabis is either: oft repeated misinformation, materially inaccurate or simply just downright wrong.

I started my research into this guide after reading much of this material, and becoming increasingly frustrated by the difficulty in obtaining â??genuineâ?? and reliable information.
Therefore, what follows, is the culmination of almost two years work in testing, researching and perfecting the (simple) technique needed to create â??mind blowingâ?? results, first time, every time.

Let me explode one of the main myths:
â??You need to eat more weed than you would smoke in order to get highâ?�.
Incorrect. This is the most commonly repeated, and wholly inaccurate, misconception.
THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol - the active ingredient of grass) evaporates at high temperatures; therefore a large percentage (as much as 50%) of your precious â??stashâ?? is lost during the smoking process. In addition, when inhaled, only a percentage of the â??smokeâ?? is absorbed into the blood stream via the lungs, the rest is simply â??breathedâ?? out and lost.
Compared to ingesting (eating), smoking is much less efficient. It has to be said however, that cooking is definitely more time consuming than just rolling a joint, but the good news is, once made, a batch of cookies will get you far higher and for a considerably longer period of time than just simply smoking that same amount.

In fact, if prepared correctly, only a tiny amount of cannabis can give even the most experienced of smokers the most â??mind blowingâ?? ride of a lifetime.


The Science:

The critical factor is to understand how the human metabolism works, and the relationship between the digestive system and the bloodstream which delivers the THC to the specialist receptors in the brain.
The first thing to bear in mind is that the human body is comprised of around 60 per cent of water, however THC itself is NOT water soluble (i.e. it cannot be extracted, broken down or absorbed in water), therefore simply eating it is pointless as your body wonâ??t be able to absorb the active ingredient.

The way to effectively convert your weed into something that will â??significantly alter your perception of space, time, sound and lightâ?? is to understand how to get virtually ALL of it into your bloodstream.

The THC (though not water soluble) will, in fact, bind to fat molecules which can easily be absorbed by the bodies digestive system. Therefore, you must extract your cannabis into a fatty medium before consumption.

The absolute best medium to use is clarified butter (or Ghee as it is called in Asian cooking) as this contains no water molecules, and is almost 100 per cent fat (regular butter will still contain water and other impurities).
N.B I recommend using â??hashishâ?? rather than â??grassâ?? when cooking, because it is a much simpler process of conversion.


What youâ??ll need:

A medium sized pan
A mixing bowl
2 grams of decent Hashish (Royal Cream or similar)
30 grams (two tablespoons) of Ghee (clarified butter)
A brownie or Cookie mix that needs oil or butter added. I can recommend both Tescoâ??s and Jane Asherâ??s â??Chocolate Chip Cookie Mixâ?? (Less than £1.50).

Yes, you did read that correctly. Two grams of good hash is all you need to make eight powerful cakes, giving a trip length of around six to eight hours each.
Now, hereâ??s the how:


The Method:
Pour about three or four inches of boiling water into your cooking pan, then sit the mixing bowl in the water so that it is just floating off the bottom (very important), add the Ghee (clarified butter) and let it melt, then add your hashish and dissolve slowly for around 15 minutes, while keeping the boiling water just simmering beneath.

N.B. Floating the mixing bowl in the boiling water prevents you â??burning offâ?? the THC (which evaporates at high temperatures), and allows you to keep the butter and hashish at the perfect temperature (around 100 degrees centigrade, the boiling point of water).

Lift out the mixing bowl and allow it to cool (but not set), then add the contents of your Brownie or Cookie mix to the bowl and follow instructions as normal.

Avoid â??over cookingâ??, or burning your Brownies or Cookies at too high an oven temperature as this will also cause your precious THC to evaporate in the process. Ideally set your oven to no more than 150 degrees centigrade (preferably less) his may require you to cook your cakes/cookies a little longer than the instructions on the packet will indicate, however, it will ensure better results.

N.B.

Space cakes made using this method will be particularly strong, and may take even experienced users by surprise. The results and the effects are significantly more powerful and intense than anything youâ??ll have experienced just smoking, so make sure you are in a safe, comfortable environment with people who you trust before consuming. Effects will start to â??kick inâ?? after about an hour and a half, and last for around six to eight hours. Should you begin to feel overwhelmed you can shorten the â??tripâ?? and reduce its effects by eating sugary foods, or drinking fruit juices rich in vitamin C.

Holy shit, I tried this with 2.2g of fine hash earlier, OMG.. This is a GOOD guide, definitely. I smoke virtually every day if the supply is up, and over the past couple months its got annoying because my tolerance to weed has lowered meaning I need dank to get a reasonable body high, but this shit, admittedly my hash was good qual but I did NOT expect results like these.

A definite reccomendation to EVERYONE.

Advanced Techniques

I thought it might be useful to add a few extra details, tips and techniques for those people who are either new to â??spaceâ?? products, or who have struggled to produce good Cannabutter in the past. Also, I wanted to include some â??Master classâ?? information for the advanced users and outline the typical results and effects youâ??ll experience when following my recipe.

Recipe Guidelines

Firstly, the primary aim of this guide is to provide forum users with an easy tried and tested way of creating premium â??spaceâ?? products, each time, every time, with the minimum amount of time, effort and hash.
Please note, although the recipe calls for 2 grams of hash you can adjust this up or down easily depending on how many cookies you want to bake. The formula is to allow .25 of a gram per cookie (no more, no less). Usually I bake 4 at a time using just 1 gram and only half the cookie mix (1 tablespoon of clarified butter instead of 2 etc).
From a â??value for moneyâ?? point of view this produces extraordinary results.

Bear in mind that a single gram of hash when smoked (even when rolled by the most economical of tokers) is only going to make two, maybe three joints. On average that number will get someone high for perhaps an afternoon or an evening. Four space cookies from the same gram however, will give a trip length of 6 to 8 hours each! Giving an overall combined total somewhere between 24 and 36 hours! Not only that but youâ??ll be significantly more â??stonedâ?? than is possible by only smoking (More on the effects later).

Hash not green, why?

There are already several excellent recipes on the site for making Cannabutter from weed, however I generally advocate using only hashish for several reasons:

Firstly, most of the Cannabutter recipes call for fairly large quantities of quality green to be used (half an ounce or more). This is potentially a large financial outlay for most first-time bakers to invest in (particularly if it goes wrong and all they end up with is some foul tasting green coloured butter). Itâ??s understandable that people might be cautious about making that kind of investment/commitment. I know I was. Therefore this recipe was developed to generate guaranteed results of the highest quality using only small amounts of precious stash.

Secondly, quality control issues. The nature of plant material means that my ounce of â??trim and shakeâ?? may only have a fraction of the THC content of someone elseâ??s, therefore, although we might both follow the same recipe, the differences in the various strengths of Cannabutter can give very inconsistent results. Hash is generally much more stable and consistent.

Thirdly, in order to make good cannabutter, you have to cook the green for quite a considerable period in order to break down the structure of the cellulose material and release the THC so it can bind with the butter. This is a fairly time consuming process that can easily fail to produce results for an inexperienced baker.
Hash, due to its production methods, requires little more than dissolving in clarified butter in order to achieve its potency. Much less likelihood of anything going wrong.


Effects and duration!

I wanted to give an explanation of the type of trip, duration and effects youâ??re likely to experience with this recipe. To a certain extent factors like your size, metabolic rate and how recently youâ??ve eaten will have a bearing, but generally, the timescales are as follows:

One hour (ish) after eating youâ??ll start to be aware of the first signs of the trip. Often described as a kind of metallic taste inside your head.
During the next hour youâ??ll feel the effects slowly start to build almost like waves washing over you.

Two hours (ish) after eating youâ??ll be experiencing â??Phase 1â?? of the trip. Generally a similar feeling to being very stoned, heightened sense of hearing, smell, taste, etc.

Three hours (ish), and youâ??re entering â??Phase 2â?? of the trip. Depending on the Sativa/Indica mix of your hash youâ??ll be either laughing your ass off or planning to start a new religion based upon worshiping the band youâ??re listening to.
Even David Schwimmer will seem hysterically funny at this point.
Some people report incredibly high levels of â??horninessâ?? at around this time (particularly women!).

Four to five (ish) hours after eating and youâ??ll be entering â??Phase 3â?? (The highest phase) of the trip. At this point youâ??ll notice what can only be described as time distortion. For example: a 45 second TV commercial will seem as long as a feature film, youâ??ll no longer just be hearing music, youâ??ll be feeling it in rainbow coloured vibrations throughout your body. If youâ??ve waited till this point to indulge in ..ahem.. physical relations, youâ??re in for a real treat. So good in fact that I donâ??t want to spoil the surprise for you.

One note of caution however, for some people (even hard core tokers) this can be overwhelming phase, and may cause them to get anxious or panicky. Try and reassure them (Theyâ??re not going to OD, so for Christ sakes donâ??t let call for an ambulance. Lol).

If theyâ??re finding it too much, sweet and sugary foods will help bring them down and/or shorten the trip.

From this point on, the phases reverse. Youâ??ll drop down to â??Phase 2â?? in about an hour or two, and â??Phase 1â?? an hour or two after that etc.

The next day youâ??ll wake up feeling very mellow and chilled indeed. One thing to watch out for, if your working the next day you may find that an hour after having your first cup of coffee itâ??ll start all over again. Donâ??t worry; itâ??ll only last for about an hour or so and usually around â??phase 1â?? in effect. Just donâ??t start giggling to yourself, employers donâ??t like it, they think your laughing at them.

Im definitely bookmarking this, I love cannabis cooking and havent experimented with cooking yet. What I love about cooking is how the effects of the cannabis seem to creep up on you onto your wiped out.

I was giggling like a school girl once I read 'mind blowing'...heh I still am....thinking about weed does that to me.

I thought it might be useful to outline the reasons I advocate hash over cannabutter, and what to do if you haven't got any. Hope they make sense.

My advice is to avoid attempting to make cannabutter unless you're:

1. Confident and experienced in making it.
2. Have an ounce to spare which your prepared to lose (if it goes wrong).
3. Patient and prepared to wait 24 hours while it simmers and cools.

Instead, follow one of the guides to making hash for these reasons.

1. It doesn't take as long to make.
2. It lasts longer (won't go mouldy in the fridge).
3. Unlike butter, you can choose either to smoke it or cook with it once made.
4. You only need small quantities to cook with (it goes a lot further).
5. The results are much more reliable, stable, and stronger.

Smoke the bud, cook with hash! :twocents:
