Can you start TOO early??

I was merrily surfing along this morning and I ran across a list of Top Ten No-Nos at Ganjaland.com. Most of them I heard before (don't over water, don't tell people, don't touch seedlings...) but one of them, #8, I had never heard before. Don't Start Too Early. Here's the quote:

For several reasons! If you are starting outdoors June 1 is perfect. But if i start earlier i will get bigger buds right? Wrong! Its strange but usually true. ill explain. Plants started in early spring will get big but they will take significantly longer to start flowering. This is because at the peak vegetative period they sense the light cycles getting longer and longer, until June 21. But they don't realize that its time to flower yet. Finally in the middle of August the plant says "HEY" "time to flower already" and it produces buds in August and September or later they will be tall as trees but thinner buds due to the fact that the sun is not as strong in september. Now if the ganja plants were put out later, as soon as they get a foot off the ground they say "what's going on" i am just in early veggie and the light hours aren't getting longer in fact SHORTER" Then the plants go crazy and since the sun is so bright in July and August you get amazing 6 foot trees that are heavier than the plants started in April!!! in addition to finishing earlier the late started plants are not nearly as noticeable.

Indoors is the same for different reasons. The light cannot penetrate more than a foot or two. So flower when plants are a foot tall. If you wait longer because you want bigger yields, you will get smaller yields and wait longer for them.

Does anyone agree or disagree with this? Until I read that, I had planned on starting my plants far earlier next year since I misjudged timing matters this year (my first) and planted a bit late. But after reading that, I'm now reconsidering how earlier I should start next spring since trying to grow superlarge plants to put out might actually be counterintuitive, if what they said is right.

Opinions?

Eh? Well, at least tell me this: was it a newb question that I should know the answer to, or was it just too damn complicamated for everyone. We are puzzled. We thought it was a good question. Uh.

Inside I flower around a foot high. For the strains I grow I end up with~ 2.5-3 foot or so high plants.

I guess the disadvantage inside would depend on the lighting you use in relation to when you flower. Would be hell to try and flower 18" tall plants with CFL's.

I may try growing less plants larger this season. Yield and crop cycles arent really important to me. I'll let ya know what, if any, difference is in yield.

I know nuttin about dirt farmin mary j. All I grow is veggies in dirt.

XCrispi pulled 19 z's off one plant in DWC. Hell, thats a two year supply for me. There have been a few others here that pulled 3/4#+ off one plant in DWC many times, too.

yer but if your plant is only 1month old at 1foot tall is it too early? cos most plants will be too tall by 2months and your supposed to give it 2months to veg before uflower

Don't I know... it's puzzling me too. You'd think longer veg = more bud, but this thing says the opposite. It does make sense, that if you put them out and let them only veg for a short while that they'll freak and work extra hard, but I'm not sure if the theory actually pays off in real life. :S Aargh.

I veg for 8 weeks, almost always ... plant is usually about 18"-24" tall at that point ... internodes are alternated, indicating it is mature for flowering ... anything smaller, I get small yields ... why he thinks 'taller plants make for less yield' is beyond me :wtf: ... I think he's smoking too much ... unless I misunderstood the question ... :jointsmile:
