Custom Cabinet Log

Hello all..i have been growing since march of this year and i still have the first plant i started with in flowering..needless to say its huge. Right around 5'1". Had 2 that size and lost one due to newbie mistakes. Germinated a femanized AZ seed which is now 5 weeks out of veg and in the same flower box as my tall one.


I built my cabinet custom to my big walk in closet, the closet is about 5' 6" tall around 4' wide and extends out from the wall around 1' 10". Has a front door, all sides have been caulked for airtight. Inside has been painted flat white i have 6 42watt warm CFL's in the cabinet for flowering with a circular fan on the floor on medium to keep air moving and temp down. Today i ordered a 400 watt HPS light to put in the cabinet for flowering, i will probably incorporate all the CFL's in with it too.

Next project is to get a circular saw so i can cut a whole in the roof of the closet for venting. I was planning on using 2 5mm computer fans for venting in and out around the top. Temp right now stays around 84 at hottest time of day so venting will be done within the next week.

The tall plant that was already in flowering is just a mid bag seed which is fairly tall and scrawny for it was my first plant :-( . It has been in flowering for around 2 months now is looking good, about 60% of hairs are amber so have a little longer till peak. Only expecting a few oz on it, the bud is fairly small due to CFL's used for most of its life.

My AZ has been in the flower box for almost 3 days now. Its around 8" tall nice and full no signs of preflowers yet. Hope to better the yield on this one with my HPS light coming towards the end of the week.

My first question is how big should pots be??? I obviously have underestimated how big root growth is on these plants and from what i see in pictures the larger the pot the bushier the plant is???

Second is 400W of HPS in that size closet going to be to much? Can you have to much? I know im going to have to cool the light big time already planning on venting for it.

Any other advice would be great im a newbie and only on my second plant...this is an addictive hobby which i was quickly sucked into and cant quit lol...so what im doing is what i have read but im sure there are those out there that know more and could help... :-D
