Perlite and Hydrotron

Would Hydrotron be a reusable and practical alternative to perlite?

In soil? Practical? No.
If you want a lightener that you can toss out in the compost after though, long-fibre coco isn't bad, just be aware that you will want to add a bit of bone meal to the mix to offset its odd interaction with Ca.
