A culture cannot be represented by certain people.
I hope I don't offend anyone. But I'm not going to bite my tounge. Because it's gotten out of hand. At first I was understanding but now my family is getting attacked. at first I considered them actions of stupid, drunk, maybe ignorant guys but now it's women, men, kids etc.
I'm talking about the negative views towards hispanics in the U.S.
Mainly, it's confusion. They think I'm mexican or puerto rican. but don't seem to respect my colombian background once I clear it up for them. It's not EVERY white person I come across. People in my bank seem to love me. lol
The "Classy" people seem to want to know me first before they judge. It's the rural, southeren, cowboy type white group.
I walk into a bar and I'm treated as a poor, filthy, unworthy client because of my strong latin looks. One time, the 2 white guys I was with got into a fight because of it. for "hanging out with a dirty mexican".
anyways, the point of all this is that, i've read somewhere that the majority of the military is black and hispanic. hispanic also includes mexican.
so if there is such a strong hispanic presence in the military and they our over there fighting for OUR countries "cause", why are these conservative-type cowboys giving hispanics so much grief? why is my mother getting spit on? why is my grandmother's accent getting made fun of? why not take out all the hispanics and see what your left with? why not make it an all white army if hispanics are so stupid?
like I said in the title, A culture cannot be represented by certain people. it just seems like every conservative, rural white person I come across looks at me like I'm total shit.
I'm sorry if I offended anyone. lol this thread will most likely get deleted by someone. I can care less, I just needed to get that off my chest.
have a nice day.
A culture cannot be represented by certain people.
There was a kid, Mark, at my Jr. High. Mark was one of the first mainstreamed disabled kids at my school. He had been blind since the age of two. His dad was a teacher at our school, so he was accepted.
One day, we were BSing at lunch about the civil rights movement and Mark had problems with the concept of race. He didn't remember skin tones. "People are just voices to me. I judge them by what they say." That stuck with me.
I'm quite rural, but free thinker that I am, I try to walk through life "blind as Mark" to race and other artificial dividers. There is only the HUMAN race!- Granny:hippy:

I dont know what your bichin about main, were of color latino, chicano, hispanic we have been rejected and loved by many for ever we come in black, brown, white, and we still stick togeather Raza bra. when you start to say they think Im a mexican well in some aspect your the same color, just they dont know theirs different countires; people that think like that, think we are all spit out of the same mother, when in fact we come from differnet places divercity and knolege make people strong, if they choose to shun you out they only make them selves weeker, which they alreay reek of in the first place. People who hold racilal hate are only proving they have fear and fear is the mother of all weekness. and when someone messes with your family showem your teath main, bust a move
A culture cannot be represented by certain people.
for me to hear this it just sucks because this isn't how the world should be. just remember when you see these people who do these things that they're the weak ones and you and your family are the strong ones. hopefully someday we won't have to hear things like this.

It's like Hendrix said, man..."They talk about me like a dog, talkin' about the clothes I wear but they don't realize, they're the ones who stare...yeah, baby! That's why!-You can't hold me down...I don't want to be tied down and I gotta move on! Cause I'm stone free to do what I please..."
People will always look at you funny. And when you walk like you have a purpose, they'll try to put you back down, but you gotta move on!

Of course, all those people are reacting from ignorance, though knowing that doesn't remove the pain such behavior inflicts. The best thing to do with pain is allow it to make you stronger. Venting as you did is very smart- it helps keep you from getting bitter. If you get bitter, they win.:wtf: If you get strong and centered despite obstacles, you win big-
You might find people in other regions more educated and aware... I couldn't live in certain places in this country because of the way many of the people think- I need to live in a diverse area with educated and multicultured minds:)
Anyway, they are just jealous because Hispanics are so sexy :D that's just my opinion

ahh it was just fresh in my mind from last night.
the drunk white bartender asked for my i.d. than he said under his breath "while your at it, lemme see your papers". So I got mad, my mother(i wanted to take her and her white boyfriend out) calmed me down and in the heat of it all some guy spit on my mother.
me and my mothers boyfriend took care of it all.
i just smoked and it's all good now, like i said
the white culture cant be represented by that one bar.

There are racist people of all backgrounds...you just have to remember that it's their ignorance.
I was lucky enough to grow up in an interracial household. I feel that I was given the oppurtunity to see the world in a different way. I judge people by their personality, and the way that they treat me and others. Being from the South, I too had to deal with alot of BS, from other people at school and stares from strangers when my family would go out together. I use to get really fired up about it, but my parents have taught me to ignore the ugly in the world....you can't change everyone...just stay true to yourself and stand up for what you believe in.
It amazes me how racist people are to this day...I feel sorry for them, honestly. They're obviously very shallow people.
I'm very sorry that you were treated that way...it breaks my heart b/c I've been through the same thing, and I know how it feels to be judged simply on the color of your skin...just remember that you are a great person, and we all love you here!!!:D:D:D

The thing people fail to realize, is that we're all humans, and we all share the same Earth. Just as marijuana has many strains, with different characteristics, so do humans, but in the end, we're all the same species.

The fact is there are people who are prejudice against others who are different. Racism is only a category in what the real problem is: anger or jealously towards others that are different.
I am mixed. I dealt with racism on both sides of the aisle, ironically more from minorities who think I'm "too white." I think in this day, and age, it's utterly ignorant to think in such a hateful way.
We have to embrace who people are. We are all different and that the beauty of humanity.
