respiratory function question for long time users
For those that enjoi the erb, but not the tabaccy:
Anyone experience/are fearful of lung damage or impaired functioning?
I have read multiple studies (some of which were not at all biased against the fine erb) claiming that cannabis users consume equal or greater amounts of tar and carcinogens than tobacco users.
I try to stick with the water bongs, as I lack the funds for a vaporizer...
but yea, so anyone, especially long term chronic users... any negative breathing problems from just cannabis use?

ive been smokeing weed for a little over a year and a half and i rarely smoke tobacco. 95% of the time i dont use any water filtration. i usually use either a pipe, gravty bong, or a joint. I have never noticed any negative breating problems from weed, but if i smoke half a cig...my lungs will feel worse than they did before i smoked that cig, obviously. If weed if so bad for the lungs, i havent noticed it yet. I think that cannabis is one of the few exceptions, if not the only exception to the rule of, smokeing anything is bad for you, because cannabis is the only plant that contains thc.

OOPS! Posted that a bit too soon! I, also, do not use tobacco. I've toked for 40 years, and yes, it clogs up your lungs! BUT two weeks after getting a vaporizer, my lungs were clear! No residual effect from toking for 40 years! Cannabis smoke is the problem- not cannabis! Get a little box vaporizer- they work well and are not THAT expensive. - Granny:hippy:

Cannabis and cigarette smoke are two different things, but cannabis smoke--and here we mean not the active ingredients but the whole smoke--is believed not to be beneficial for pulmonary health long-term. Clearly from the research that we have now, THC and CBD carry with them some amazing anti-inflammatory-anti-carcinogenic-broncho-dilating effects. But all the other stuff that burns and inhales along with those active ingredients is dirty. Fortunately, most even heavy cannabis smokers don't take it in at the same rate they do cigarettes. Even ingested in light amounts, you're not going to find anyone with any medical sense who'll encourage others to inhale burning vegetable matter into their lungs at a high--or even a low or moderate--rate.

Invest in a vaporizer. A bong is not going to help with filtering the harmful chemicals too good. From my experience, smoking cannabis did impair my lungs to a noticable degree. My breathing wasnt too normal and the best way to explain is, when I breathe in and out, it wasnt at the rhythm that I was use too (I hope this makes sense). When I was smoking joints on a regular basis, I started to notice that my asthma was getting worst. Normally I don't need to use my asthma puffers but since my times with smoking a lot of weed, I started wheezing a lot more and my usage for the puffers increased. I was later rushed to the hospital due to an asthma attack and spent a week in there. I even got bronchitis from smoking as well.
I own a volcano vaporizer and like most users would tell you, the feeling is smooth and coughing is minimum to none. I do miss rolling up a nice spliff and smoking it in a nice beautiful day but which is more important, getting high for a few hrs or your health? I now use my volcano and no regrets on purchasing the machine. If I even decide to smoke a spliff, it will be extremely rare, but like say in my previous post, dont smoke so much (if you do of course. If not ignore this). If your concerned about the respiratory area, get a vaporizer or smoke every now and then.

Ah.. ive been smokin for about 4 years now, always through a bong. I never touch tobacco cause i think its a terrible habit to start. Ive always beleived that bong is one of the best ways to smoke, although a vaporizer is better. But still, the water in a bong does filter a lot of chemicals and tar from the smoke. I really haven't noticed anything in the lungs department so far. Although i see my brother who is a tobacco smoker basically hack up a lung every morning. Well hope it helps.. Peace.

The water does not filter a lot of chemicals from the weed. How on earth are you so certain that it does? :wtf:

He's certain water filters out chemicals because the water acts a solvent and absorbs some of the chemicals and cools the smoke down. That's why the water in a bong looks really nasty after a couple of sessions.
