I recently tried to think of where this word (Toke) has come from. So far the conclusion that I came to was a mix of "taking a smoke- toking" This has probably been asked before but does anyone know the true origin of the word?

toke (tk) KEY Slang
NOUN:
A puff on a cigarette, marijuana cigarette, or pipe containing hashish or another mind-altering substance.
tr. & intr.v.
toked , tokĀ·ing , tokes
To puff or smoke (a marijuana cigarette, for example) or to engage in such activity.
ETYMOLOGY:
Perhaps from Spanish "toque" = a hit, a turn. From "tocar" = to touch. From Vulgar Latin *toccare
^I always figured that was the origin. "un toque" - "a hit" is all too common in all kinds of spanish.
