Wattage Question about CFL's

I'm planning on doing a first time grow in my basement. I'm going to use bagseed and a large plastic planter. Can anyone give a newbie some advice on lighting? I've been reading about it and I've decided CFL's are my best bet for the moment, but how many should I use and in what way should I set them up? I was thinking maybe getting a few adjustable desk lamps and setting them up around it and keeping them on something so that they can be nearthe tops of the leaves. Any info or advice at all would be very welcome!!

just get 42 watt cmpct fluros i got 4 of them for 2 plants and also 3 t8 tubes a little over 7000 lumens and 120 watts
