First Indoor Grow Problems!

So I finally started my first indoor grow:). Unfortunately, it's not going too well. I'm using 4-26 watt CFL's in a closet. I'm growing some seeds I ordered from dutchbreed.com. They have been in the dirt for about 11 days, and only one of the three plants is growing well, and I have no idea why. One of them is basically dead. Any idea what I am doing wrong, or are these just bad seeds? Thanks guys!

Soil- what is it? looks like bark mulch!
Pots- you need to tear the sides of the pot down so the soil surface is less than 1 inch from the rim. Placement too deep=poor air circulation= sick plants

I'd go with soil as well.

the soil is just regular organic potting soil i bought from a local shop. is it possible to change soils mid grow? it's kinda weird because i have a pepper plant growing in a pot in my backyard that is huge, and i am using the same soil for it. i'll try cutting off the excess pot and see if that helps.

well one of my plants officially died, and the other one is very, very close to death. fortunately the third one is thriving. i'm still not too sure why two of them failed, and one is doing so well. i just hope my last one is a female!

There are no guarantees, but to increase your chances of this being a female you can:

1. Keep temp in low 70's
2. High nitrogen and low potassium for the next 2-3 weeks.
3. No plant stress! No pruning or bending which damages the stem.
4. High humidity.
5. Fewer hours of light (e.g. 14 hours).
6. Heavy blue spectrum light., low red.

thanks for the tips! i can do all of those things except the temps and humidity. i might have to invest in an A/C because my temps are in the 80-87 range, and it's been getting hotter everyday here.
