Red spectrum lights are a must for flowering. The plant requires more red and orange (warm) colors for that stage in its life. Versus the blue (or cool) colors, which the plant needs during the vegetative stage of its life. I'm not sure what you mean by "your average lights" Do you mean incandescants?
agreed ... you NEED the 'warm' red spectrum lamps for flowering success ... when I didn't know any better, I was using the same 'blue' temp lamps for my entire grows .. the plant matured and flowered, but the buds were small, light, fluffy, the yield was a joke :wtf: ... now, it's OK to veg with red spectrum, I run my entire grow with one 400-watt HPS sodium lamp, with no signs of stretching, etc. .. IF you can afford only ONE high-pressure lamp, go for a sodium :smokin:
thanks for the responses. makes sense to me now.
