Hey, last Tuesday I had upper and lower jaw surgery. Its where they pretty much break your jaw and re-align it. Swelling has gone down alot since then but I have like no feeling in my face in alot of parts.
Right now I am taking Tyonel III (which has codein in it) and some cough medicine with a substance similar to vicoden in it. Both those dont make me that loopy or anything. Just kinda relaxed and tired.
but has anyone else smoked after a dental/orthadontic surgery like thiss?

There are 2 opiates in Vicodin, Thebaine and Codeine. Codeine is the weakest of opiates, and thebaine acts in the same way as both morphine and codein. I can't imagine Thebaine being in a cough medicine though, as Vicodin and Thebaine both are schedule 3 substances. If it's only codein, there's really no sense relating it to Vicodin (A very powerful and adictive opioid analgesic).
I wouldn't recommend smoking while your mouth is healing as it could really mess up the whole healing process. I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable (IE Birdgirl) could tell you more. I just wouldn't recommend it. If you really must indulge, it would be much better to vaporize. If you can't do that, try making a weed smoothy. You'd need some sort of fat or alcohol in it for it to absorb properly though.
Hmmm interesting thought. I'm getting my wisdom teeth pulled in a few weeks. :(
What are you talking about man? Vicodin only has one opiate, hydrocodone, and it is mixed with acetaminophen.Quote:

My inclination would be not to smoke till you've healed a bit more and your tissues have begun to mend themselves. But there are people here all the time who smoke anyway, even when it's not the ideal thing. Is your jaw wired together? Aren't you worried about what might happen if you had a strong need to cough afterwards?

and funny enough...my friends mom works at a dentist....she blazes too. So i had her ask her mom. basically it was okay to do as long as i dont suck too hard. I just took the tokes in slow and released slow. But they tokes werent too big...since i cant open my mouth much. But i didnt cough.

Gandalf, well hydrocodone is used in many cough syrups. It is a cough suppressant in addition to being a pain killer.Quote:

You would be hard pressed to find any doctor or nurse or pharmacist say Vicodin contains thebaine and codeine and then correct themselves and say well it is made from thebaine and codeine. Birdgirl I saw this thread earlier and I wanted to get more info from the OP and then I thought well depending on their diet restricitions they could make a mj drink or food instead of smoking. But then I got busy and didn't post anything. Turns out the OP has it all figured out now.:jointsmile:
